This update comes from John Carroll in case anyone wants to correspond with him about these Safari clothes
I can produce all kinds of costumes--I do reproduction clothing for theatres museums and reenactors all the time--that is the mindset I have with the Indy-type stuff--reproducing historical (1930s) clothing. I will do my best to copy exactly, and If I have the clothing I can copy it without taking it apart. If this pattern is the design of a costumer--I have to make some change even if subtle so I don't get in trouble.
The other thing I need to mention is I am assuming you're asking for Harrison Ford-styled costume peices, but just in case, I will not produce Nazi uniforms. I cannot have my name on something like that unless I control what they are being used for. So basically I won't make Nazi uniforms at all.
I have had no direct questions other than you, but please let people know to ask if they do have any.
Thanks again,
John
Okay gang here is the deal:
Without giving John a detailed examination, a pattern or a sample of each item ( which I don't have ), here was John Carroll's response to my plea /b]

The way I feel about it, is I will make anything if I have all of the details.
My custom-made shirts, which is what this would be run $125.00. Any good tailor would charge a great deal more. Custom pants made of woll would run $175.00. Custom-made stuff like this is difficult, and would probably require a "fitting"--that being a muslin mock up sent to you to make sure the pattern fits right, then sent back to me to make the real garment.
This type of costume is excepptionally detail-oriented, so it would take more time and patience than my other costumes.
But to answer your question straight--yea, I'll do it.
Thanks,
John John also authorized me to post this:

Thanks John. Can I let the gang at IndyFan.com know of your approach to the two pieces ? They'll be especially interested in the pants if you can bring em in at that price.
I want to make sure before I say anything. Thanks
Ken
Sure, no problem. Just tell them to reference this conversation when contacting me.
Thanks again,
John
BOTTOM LINE: Though the prices are pretty close to what they'll likely be, the deal on the pants is IMHO killer. I recommend John highly; He did a great Jedi Tunic for me.
JJ, this is a really good lead. Thanks for the leg work. I am wondering if he has to disassemble the garmet to copy it. Prices seem about right too. And, it looks like he's in Dallas, TX
He's in DAllas? JJ, do you know if his work is cheaper if we provide a pattern? I have a Princess Leia dress pattern and I need to find someone to make the dress.
Please tell him to use cotton Popplin or whatever it is LL Bean makes it's Indy shirts out of. It's the most durable shirt fabric I've ever seen. :junior: -IJ

Also, I will need all of our ranks to pull together with pix of their NH gear, so if you have it, start posting pix of it laid out neatly in this thread, or another if the mods prefer. Take plenty of detail ( pleats, pockets, etc) shots too.
These will help a lot.
Anyone with pix out there ? Anyone ? Brody ? Brody ?

EDIT: >>>>>>>>>THE BIG CATCH<<<<<<<<<<<
One thing to bear in mind about all this fun. Whatever "1930's Style Men's Safari Shirt and/or Pants" comes out of this little tribute, they cannot and will not be a duplication of anyone else's work, although it may be inspired by any number of experiences and images. This goes for me and anyone else interested in enjoying fashions of yesteryear.
Thanks,
Ken
P.S. ONLY Noel Howard makes THE Official Indiana Jones (R) pants and shirt. Ever. Period. End of Line.

The only thing I suggest is to have them sent directly to your email rather than posted here. That's what locked up this site LAST month due to the fact that the server limit had been reached because of all the DVD photo downloads. Let's not do THAT again. :shock
Regards. Michaelson
I emailed John about his availability. He says he can do it but he is booked up until after the first of the year.
".. it will take several months to complete this due to the volume of orders I have and the nature of your request."
It sounds promising. When I get some more information, I'll let you know.
I'd be interested in a shirt or two if he could make them built like the LLBean in terms of construction and fabric (i.e.: tough as nails and comfortable) and like Noel Howard in the details (i.e.: epaulets, front pleats, etc). And instead of just custom items, could he also make "off the rack" sizes since alot of us fit those as well...
Maybe offering the shirt in the "Stone" screen styled color of ROTLA,
also in the more traditional "Khaki" color with darker buttons (ToD, LC).

Ditto. What's going to happen now since Peter is going to be making authentic shirts for less money.
Good question RK, though I'd note that I inquired before Peter's big news.
Real big news
I really like John's work, but truth be told if Peter brings the real deal in for the current speculated price, I am there. DOn't worry JOhn you'll always be my Jedi tailor
