Raiders and Temple of Doom holsters

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to give a quick introduction and show off a few of the Indy holsters that I have made recently. I have actually been a member of the forum for many years now and have had a great time learning from the many Indy experts here.

A little more than a year ago my son who was six at the time wanted an Indiana Jones costume to wear to the Dragoncon convention. Like any proud dad I was really happy to see him enjoy a character that I had loved since I was nine years old. The quest began for the perfect costume for him and then I hit a roadblock. The toy gun and holster they made during the release of Crystal Skull was cool looking but it would never hold up to his adventures. I asked around for someone to make a child sized holster but never had a response so I thought about making one for him. Thanks to the great holster pattern from K on the Run I had the courage to try my hand at leatherworking. I never would have guessed how much I would grow to love making things out of leather!! I would like to give a big thank you to K on the Run for getting me into this amazing hobby.

Since that first holster I have made several child and adult sized Raiders holsters and this weekend I finally got around to making a pattern from my vintage Welby holster. I hope you enjoy the pictures and I would love to hear some ideas on how I could improve these. Thanks!

Didn't know I had a fellow Solent lurking around here! I did a double-take for a moment when I first saw your post. I was like, "Huh? I didn't write that! Oh...wait a second..." That is some really nice leatherwork on those holsters. I suspect that you'll be getting orders from fellow COW members before too long, if you haven't already.

Let me try to answer some of your questions.

Tundraider - I really appreciate your compliment on the stitching since this is something I’m always trying to improve on. My technique is simply to put the thread in the same direction on each hole and take my time. I have read The Art of Hand Sewing Leather by Al Stohlman about a dozen times.

Kwad - I think you may have just identified this gun for me!! Even though I really enjoy making these holsters unfortunately I’m not very knowledgeable about guns. I found this gun in the attic when I was a kid and thought it looked like something Indy would have. The hammer spring is broken and was the reason my mom allowed me to play with it. I would love to know more about it.


Ttwilekjedi – It is great to see you here! One of the main reasons we go to Dragoncon is the great people we meet. I know you were being bombarded with request for photos but you were especially nice with my son. Thanks and we hope to see you there again this year.

Solent MKIII – It is also great to see another Solent here! Thanks for the vote of encouragement that other COW members would like one of the holsters. I have been fortunate to sell a few of the Raiders holster over on the RPF forum and really enjoy knowing that others like them enough to add to their Indy gear. I am really happy with the way the Welby holster is turning out and should have one for sale in the next day or two. I’ll make a new post in the classified section when it is ready.

As far as meeting Karen Allen all I can say is she is one of the nicest people I have ever met. We first met her on Friday while my son was dressed like Luke Skywalker and she was so nice to take the time and talk to him. He really wanted a photo but asked if he could come back later with his Indy gear on. You should have seen the look on her face when he walked up looking like a small version of Indy! Even though we were the ones coming to ask for a photo she immediately asked for permission to take a picture of him. This was the highlight of the entire weekend and I really hope she comes back to the convention again this year.

You are absolutely right. Karen Allen is one of the nicest, down to earth celebrities to meet. She's so low key you're not even sure its her untill she smiles. It's easy to meet her where I am since she lives in my neck of the woods. She owns a knitware business and if you're real lucky can be waited on by her. I got especially lucky in 2008 when she did an interview at a local theatre for our Albany NPR station. Got her to sign my CS one sheet.

It appears to be an Harrinton & Richardson small frame, top break revolver.
Is there any markings on the gun? Is it 5 or 6 shot?

I've got a raiders holster from a gear website. I don't remember what website, but it's very cool. I've distressed it a little bit (running and sliding in mud and dirt.)
