Indy Gear not suitable for cleaning garage.

My mother employed my help today in cleaning the garage, but when I showed up dressed like Indiana Jones she told me I should change my clothes immediately because I shouldn't destroy nice clothes. Makes me wonder if Indy was ever told by someone that he was dressed too nicely to be wandering around Peru looking for ancient artifacts. This probably doesn't warrant a new thread but I wanted to share and I didn't know where else to put this story.

Well, for the 30s and 40s men wore pants and a work shirt instead of shorts/jeans and t-shirts to do dirty work. So I can see how someone would find the indy gear looking too nice for work. I've gone to the bar or just out with my gf on day trips dressed in slacks, a button up and a vest with a fedora....and have been asked why I was so dressed up., in other times that wouldn't be dressed up at all, just normal day wear.


Personally.....paying 50 or more bucks for a shirt and 60-100 dollars for a pair of pants makes me wary to actually use my indy gear for wear and tear work.

I've gotten this too on a few occasions. But the instance I found most hilarious was after I first got my whip, I put on my Wested to offer a little protection and my mother urged me to take it off and put on one of my old jackets instead. She was concerned that it would get messed up. I was just using it as it was intended.

That's because it's a "dry heat" , but that only works until 115 F then it's just hot, but I still wore my black beaver felt cowboy hat with lining and no vents.

115 might come in June, if not July and August, but in July our humidity also goes up with the summer thunderstorms, so it is not always ideal.

I have always felt that part of the charm of Indy`s outfit is that he was just wearing normal clothing for that time period. All the overdramatics we make about why he wore what wore would probly be nothing more than he just got up, went into his closet and threw something on!

I remember when I lived in Vegas....I LOVED it. No humidity even with the heat. I love that city......I wore a fedora and a sports coat every day with no problem.

I would agree completely with this, per my above post how people dressed different back in the day.......if he didn't wear the exact same thing in every adventure. That smacks of him purposefully having his clothes custom made (no big issue in the 30's and 40's) and/or having bought his clothes in bulk.

Because while military inspired, his clothes aren't military issue.
