Re: Todd's or Magnoli?
Not entirely a fair question. Magnoli is fully custom, so if you have specific details that make a jacket "screen accurate" by your standards, you can get them.
That said, by reports from many SA nuts, Todd's is about as accurate as you're going to get without modifications. His standard, in my eyes, is perfect. The only caveat with Todd's is that his pattern, even custom, does not flatter those with a generous midsection. Unless you use his "duct tape mummy" method, but you can ask him about that. This is the ONLY reason I do not own one.
Ultimately, both can provide what you want, and both will do it well. But if you are relying on the vendor to figure out what's SA, Todd's is best. If you have very specific details in mind, then I recommend Magnoli.

Kyle,
If you still look like your avatar, Todd's will probably work well for you and will do so with less wait and wallet-impact.
I have two and couldn't be happier about my jackets.

Ya I still look like my avatar Actually, now that I look closely, the pockets mixed with shadows on my shirt make it look as if I used to weigh 400 lbs and then lost a bunch of weight, resulting in excess skin LOLMountaineer wrote:Kyle,

Re: Todd's or Magnoli?
Never looked at it like that. Funny now that you mention it.
Just try a mock-up of Todd's stuff based on the measurements he lists on his page, or any other vendor for that reason.
I mentioned something similar a while back in another post with (I think) good results: http://indygear.com/cow/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=40486
I did that with mine and I was very pleased with the results.
Consequently, that's why I'm not jumping on this current deal at U.S. Wings. Those seem just a bit long for me.
A slight bummer, but I still love my standard so I'm not too upset.

Re: Todd's or Magnoli?
Usually, I'm right with Chewbacca Jones on things, but I have to disagree a little bit here (I don't know about the duct tape dummy method, so maybe I'm just off on this). I had a Todd's custom and I discussed my shape with him (at the time, a bigger belly than even what I have now) and he did adjust the pattern to where that wasn't a problem. Very nice jacket. I only got rid of it because it always felt too short in the back, but that was my measuring error, not Todd's, as it was dead on to what I gave him. I just like a little longer jacket so an SA length Raiders (what I was shooting for) isn't my exact cup of tea.
With his current batch of standards, there are two things to consider. Due to a factory error, the yoke and arm sleeves line up and the collar stops about an inch before the collar stand on the non-stormflap side of the jacket, rather than ending even with the collar stand. Everything else is amazingly dead on and I'm a huge fan of the color and grain of the lambskin. Unfortunately, he's pretty stocked up on standards so I think it won't be until next year (at least, this is what I've been told) before he gets any new shipments that will have these things corrected. Once he does, I'm jumping all over getting another standard. If those things don't mean that much to you, then the current stock is one of the better bargains in Indy-land. To get back to the custom, if you went that route, I think I'd go lamb if I could get the same type of stuff as his standards. I had washed cowhide and, while it is very nice stuff--soft yet has cowhide's resiliency--it was a little too light brown for my taste.
I don't have a Magnoli Indy jacket yet (I will probably get a ToD from him this year) but everything I've heard has been positive. I do have another of his jackets and it is terrific.
On one hand, it's a hard choice because they both offer terrific products and service so it's something of a matter of just going with your gut, I guess. On the other hand, it's good because I don't really think you can go wrong.

Now, this is good, crisman's "disagreement" on the Todd fit. It shows that individual experiences can vary greatly, and impact our advice. Thus, always get a second opinion... preferably a third when you can.

Re: Todd's or Magnoli?
Unless things have changed Todd's only offers a Raiders style jacket.
I'd like to see 'owners' photos of some of the current Magnoli jackets, particularly the ToD and LC styles

The photo on Todd's website sums it up about his jacket. Magnoli if you have a laundry list of specs.

Re: Todd's or Magnoli?
I've heard laundry lists aren't necessary for Magnoli's ToD or LC. I haven't seen recent 'owner' photos of either though.
Surely some people have them?

Re: Todd's or Magnoli?
Well, the laundry-list thing could apply different ways.
1. Your idea of accurate may not be Magnoli's (or somebody else's). Happens a lot around here.
2. Magnoli's inside pockets are usually different than the screen-used jackets. This might drive some people mad.
3. Maybe you dislike one thing about a particular jacket, and thus you want it made not-quite-SA.
4. You're a mutant (like me) and standard sizes may not fit right.
So, while one may not NEED to have special requests, it's good to know that Magnoli is the guy for that sort of stuff.

Re: Todd's or Magnoli?
Thanks guys. I'm still concerned about the buckles on Mags and Todd's jackets, as they aren't SA

Re: Todd's or Magnoli?
Last I checked, nobody's is SA... except TN, for obvious reasons. Bless him. I think Wested had some for a while (maybe still do) but rarely put them on even when specifically asked for. If that detail keeps you from buying a jacket, you'll be doin' Streets of Cairo 'til the end of time (most likely). You'd be better off tracking the buckles down after market and swapping them out, regardless of which jacket you buy.

Is this true on all sizes he has in stock or just particular ones?crismans wrote: With his current batch of standards, there are two things to consider. Re: Todd's or Magnoli?
well since i have only a todds standard in xl , i can't say without being biased that todds is a very awesome jacket .i have had mine for over a year now and love the jacket it is very lightweight , not as light as a windbreaker like some people like to say , but it is a good looking jacket .i was going to distress my jacket when i first got it , but decided to let it age naturally, cause it just looked so good , one day when i buy another jacket , it may or may not be a magnoli?
i may end up buying a todds custom , but for the time being i'm happy with a todds .
