Wait a minute, Neil Cooper has a letter from George Lucas? Did Cooper write the letter or Lucas? So now were going with what Lucas knows about leather, good gravy. Now if he requested that it be made of calf, and Cooper suggested the oil pulled calf, Lucas said ok, and then it was produced and the letter is Lucas' acknowledgement that the jacket was constructed of said leather (under the supervision of both parties), that is different, but as you wrote it there, I initially inferred that Lucas was giving a shot at what he thought the leather was supposed to be after the fact.RaiderZee wrote:Oh boy, here goes:
NC and DH have a letter from GL stating that the jacket in his office was made by NC. NC made two jackets for the film, and says in no uncertain terms that they were made from 3oz. irregular oil-pulled calfskinin. This jacket, pulled from GLs office, was delivered to Tony for his examination prior to making the CS jacket.
Tony said he was willing to bet it was shrunken lamb, was even certain, but when pressed said that he could be wrong.

Big Tony, rest in peace. What you did for our hobby cannot be overestimated. How you treated people and life in general is an inspiration for us all.
But in a court of law, Tony's admittedly immaculate opinion would be easily trumped by the testimony of the maker of the jacket and his bosses who PERSONALLY supervised the making of the jacket.
Tony lost the bet.
Did Peter make jackets? Of course. Did they see screen time? Most probably. Did he design the jacket largely by himself as he claims? All EYEWITNESS TESTIMONY BY IMMENSELY CREDIBLE PERSONS say no. Which jackets are used shot-by-shot? Photographic evidence may help clear that up to a degree, but to argue about types of leather from screenshots is folly.

Of course it matters. If someone didn't think it mattered it would not have been brought up.that_dog wrote:It doesn't matter if Tony admitted that he could be wrong or not. He could have been 100% positive, willing to bet his life, and he still could have been wrong.
Tony's certainty is not proof of anything but how strongly he held his opinion as to what the jacket was made of. Is that opinion worth anything? Of course it is... but it is far less conclusive than the direct testimony of the maker himself.
What do we have from Neil Cooper exactly. What context is it in? To what or what jacket is he referring exactly?
You and a few others seem to know precisely? What is it we have that is conclusive, other than the word and conviction of Tony Nowak as related to the specific jacket he was given to copy?

This debate is getting very funny - even though it sometimes sounds like a religious conflict, with faith guiding people's views rather then facts.
It's a pity Tony isn't here to comment, but I can imagine him saying - "Calf, really? &*&%^%$ me I was willing to bet it was lamb, okay, so it's calf..."
_, thank you for your information. I am personally so happy to read a fan site that has carefully constructed information from direct sources, not just fanboy speculation. Some people here act as if _ is trying to confuse us or tell us lies when he is clearly dedicated to the opposite and always has been. He helped to invent this hobby of ours. Sure, he's sometimes abrasive, but that's a separate issue and one he often apologises for.
Can everyone just calm down now? We all share the love of a jacket and a sincere respect for a man (TN), so let's not kill the fun.
I personally would now like to get more info on what the differences are between the Cooper and the Wested in terms of design features, rather than stains, scratches and markings. Can anyone (on another thread, obviously) identify a Wested and a Cooper? I know there's a couple of good pictorial threads here but I personally need a clearer description.
I am stunned by how complex and layered the origin of Indy's jacket really is. That's the take home wisdom here, folks. Movies are strange things...

I say we just declare this thread as being too religious and lock it, seems as though there are lots of beliefs out there, and only one truth, but no one has a full canon of scripture, lol.

Sticky this and then shut this thread down! (JK mods!! Yall should get paid overtime for dealing with the jacket section):CR: RZ is right, the preponderance of evidence is in the favor of _'s account. In a court of law, conjecture would not stand up to evidence. I mean, a lot of people thought that OJ was actually guilty, and look what happened to that...RaiderZee wrote:Oh boy, here goes:

this is exactly what I am hearing in my head aswell. well said CM, you only missed the FULL CAPS."Calf, really? &*&%^%$ me I was willing to bet it was lamb, okay, so it's calf..."
Its a shame that people turn this into almost a religious argument, thats the feeling I get when reading this thread. its a discussion about a jacket made from either calf or lamb! If you ask me? Id rather be talking about Jessica Biel. but thats just me.
I wanna thank _ for what he shares with us again. wether it not allways be well recieved by the majority of the crowd here, it is for me, the screen grabing fanboy that I am. Im open to change my mind if it all makes sence and can hold ground.
with that I am shutting this thread down.
