Just ordered my Wested Indy jacket in person

Post by simmo »

Sat down and watched the Indy films the other day after getting the r.1 dvd trilogy for christmas and remembered how much i'd always loved the Indy jacket so thought i would have a look on the net.Eventually came across Wested leather and these forums and realised i only live 30 mins from Wested leather ! How lucky is that ??? Popped in there today and spoke to Peter and the helpful staff.Got to look at all the different leathers and tried a few on .Got measured up and hopefully should be ready in 3 weeks.I went for the Raiders authentic lambskin. Will let you know how i get on when its ready.Maybe sort a few pics out.Nice to have the man himself telling you what he thinks of the fit.

I would never have known what kind of shoes indy wears unless I hadn’t found this forum.

The internet has taken all of the romance out of research.

Welcome Simmo,

You are very lucky to be so close to Wested. I am very envious.
Can't wait to see your new jacket...be sure to post some pics.

Kent huh? I think you used to live even closer to Wested before they moved!!
I sure wish I could do that, when I eventually visit Endland I'll have to stop by and get a jacket!

Only 30 minutes away?.....WOW! If I lived that close to Peter, they would have to charge me rent, lol, for I would be hangin' out at Wested all the time checkin' out the jackets and learning as much as possible about the jacket and Peter's experiences in the movie biz. 8)
Kind Regards!
Captain D
p.s-hey, thers an idea....perhaps Peter would be willing to write a book on his experiences in the movie-costume biz.

Finally got my Raiders jacket. Heres some pics.would appreciate some comments on the fit.Do u think its the right length for Raiders ? Somehow imagined it to be shorter.I know the sleeves are a bit long but hate having short sleeves and when they ride up should fit ok :

Looks great!. Congrats. It looks like it may be a little long, Temple of doom length, but that may be because your belt buckle looks a little high in the pic. BTW, What leather is that?

Don't worry about the sleeves. I was watching Raiders last night on my lap-top, because I couldn't sleep, and I was paying particular attention to the fit of his jacket. I was amazed at how long his sleeves were. Take a look at the opening scene and see if you don't agree.

This may be why your sleeves are long, and afterall, Peter measured you personally. You could always drive over there and ask him what he thinks. But, if you're asking for my opinion, I think it's perfect.

Looks good to me - if anything mine's a little too tight...or that could be middle aged spread setting in... Woohoo! With all the stress of moving I'd totally forgotten where Wested was, I've moved to about 45 mins away, on a good day at least :) (Must resist, must resist - no more gear  )

How much room do you have to tighten the side fasteners?

Yes. Think of how the jacket hangs on him when its open, like a suit jacket almost and even in the front on both sides. Open yours and look in a mirror and think of the Hovitos scenes. Keep in mind as well that you are not wearing a MK VII, a belt, holster and whip underneath. ;)

That's how much room I have in my Lambskin aswell, try tightning the side straps in you want it tighter.
It's a perfect fit By the way, and it's always good to have another UK gear head aboard! :)

adjusted the side fasteners but to get a more snug fit the fasteners end up sticking out to much and look like they are flapping in the breeze.

The same thing happens on mine, it doesn't bother me, but it is easily fixed, simply adjust them untill you're happy, then double back the straps through so they're facing the other way, it was discussed how to do this on another thread on this forum, it's really easy to do.
Voila!

It's true, your jacket looks great, perfect fit. I hope mine looks as good. Although, I have someting to fill out that extra room in the front. :P

Mine has that as well; it makes it perfect when I'm wearing a sweater or something underneath.

But then again, just wait until you're MY age....you've find that you'll have to order jackets WITH that extra room around the middle, so maybe you got an older fans jacket by mistake? (grins) Regards. Michaelson

Even you "skinny" guys still get the ride-up in the front.

You can see in your side shots that the front of the jacket is
about an inch higher than the back. And your not standing all
that straight, shoulders back, in the picture. It will be worse when you stand
up straighter.

This is actually a good picture to show everone that getting
that extra inch in the front is good for everyone. I am about
the same size as you are, and because I added the extra length
to the front, the jacket looks more parallel with the ground now,
and does not ride-up anymore.

My first jacket looked just like yours, and when I stood up really
straight, it rode-up something fierce. But after adding the extra
length, its perfect.

You don't need to have a "gut" in order for the extra length to
benefit you.

But other than that, its a nice looking jacket. I don't mean to be
picky, but its an observation that I noticed right away because it
happened to me.

Simmo, that jacket looks awesome. After checking out your new pics, I don't think you could have had it made any better for your frame. Peter did a perfect job measuring you.
Enjoy.

Cheers.Still not 100% on length but it is definately starting to grow on me more and more considering i've hardly taken it off since i got it ! Size was a 44L as i'm 6ft tall.Dont know if that sounds about right.Actually it was another guy who measured me.Dont know his name but guess he was his Peters right hand man.Peter was there at the time and had a chat with him. Both friendly, helpful guys.

I have to agree with IndyBlues. The jacket looks perfect. I really like the Authentic color, I think I might have to invest in another Wested sometime soon! I wish I had been able to stop into the Wested shop when I was in London last November. Although I didn't have anyone take my measurements, my Wested still fit great!

Simmo,
I am 6'2" and 195 pounds (I'm not sure how many Stone that is!) and my jacket, which looks exactly like yours, is a 44L. I said it before and I'll say it again, agreeing with IndyBlues and others, that is a beautiful jacket and it fits you perfectly.

My guess is that the guy who measured you was Gerry. He seems to be Peter's right hand man.

Enjoy it and post some pictures of your adventures.

the fit

Post by rbxb »

heres my opinion.....maybe it'll be worth what it cost ya.................

judging by the pic
The color is great !
bring it up an inch on the sleeves & put gussets on it
1/2 in the shoulders (too big)
also bring it up 1 to two inches in body length
I like a little smaller pocket size too
of course I'm nitpicking but you asked................
Nice buckle

Just returned from Wested minus my jacket.Wasn't happy with the fit and just kept niggling me.Want it to be 100 %.Going for a 42 which will be about an inch and a half shorter in the length and fit me much more snug around the body.Cant fault these guys service.Had no problem sorting me out and cheers to Gerry(think thats his name) for not getting the hump with awkward customers like me :) Will post some pics when i get the new improved jacket

Good luck with the new jacket. Not to sound like I am contradicting myself, but I think you did the right thing. You're the one that has to be happy.
I'm curious: did Gerry think it was too big and if so, where? -or did he think it was more of a preference thing?
Don't forget to post the new pictures.
Best of luck with it,
Tim

He did say it was a preference thing but did comment on the 42 looking a better fit on me than the 44 L .At the end of the day its what u feel comfortable in and i felt i wanted a shorter more tighter fittting jacket than the 44L .As i said they were ok about sorting me out and Wested are

Well after jerking the guys at wested around i am finally happy with my jacket. As i mentioned above decided to go a size smaller and also make the jacket shorter. The 42L was a lot better fit than the original 44L but wasn't happy with the length as it felt too short ! So had to return my jacket again and this time asked for a 42 fit but with 27" length and 26" arms.At this point u would expect wested to start getting a bit p*****d off but i have just recieved my jacket a few minutes ago and considering i didn't post till mon and its now only thurs i am well impressed.Think a lot of other companys would have got the right hump and either told me where to go or make me wait.Thumbs up to Wested and cheers to Jerry who must have cursed me a few times! Have moved away from kent now so wont be able to visit their premises now so have to have delivered like the rest of u guys.Think maybe i would get lynched from Wested's flagpole if i did pop in ! Uploaded 4 new pics so u can compare at : http://public.fotki.com/simmo/
Cheers.

The new jacket does look like it fits you much better. Are you happier with this one? I've been considering sending my jacket back for the THIRD time to have more work done on it or just have it remade. But I haven't decided yet.

It does look better this time around.. It looks like they tapered the body slighlty to make it hang better. Nice jacket my friend.
Now I just hope mine will be perfect, because the turn around time for me would kill me.
