Southbeachleather Indy Jacket - quality??

Post by bargle »

I'm new here as many of you know so I apologize for my limited knowledge on this subject. In my quest for an inexpensive jacket option I came across these guys. They sell online via their store (and on eBay). I'm wondering if anyone can offer an opinion on it. I've seen pics of the back and they appear to be cut correctly with no extra seams or panels. Thanks.

If you are looking for a bargain, far better to go with a Todd's std.

I've actually never heard of these guys. For that price I would think it would be best to get on the special Indy priced advanced order Wings, or an OTR Wested perhaps? Anyone else?

And considering their write up is grammatically atrocious, and their leather looks like plastic, I'd agree with the Todd's assessment if you're after a good Indy jacket at an inexpensive price point.

I think I do. Wasn't I standing there when the guy tried it on?
I'd like to believe that it didn't fit me so I didn't want to buy it from you... but truthfully, I think I just didn't know what it was at time.
Let me know when you're selling the next one, if there is a next time.

Stay away from them! I ordered one as my 1st Indy jacket trying to go cheap. Well you know what they say about buying cheap. Besides the quality being cheap, the jacket was way too small as the woman I spoke with ignored my measurements.

Do you have any pictures though? I've always wanted to see something other than their promotional image (which certainly looks atrocious enough). Kinda a train wreck scenario, I think...

No sorry, I don't. I think I probably burned (deleted) whatever evidence I ever had that I "owned" one. This was over 2 years ago as I was first getting into the hobby. Even if English is not their first language but still; they were just...bad. :-0

Welcome to COW bargle.

Bargle you cannot beat this jacket offering: http://www.toddscostumes.com/cgi/commer ... egory=X352 if you are looking for a "brand new" jacket for $149.99 + shipping. IMHO the most accurate "brand new" Indy jacket you will ever find for the price.

http://www.uswings.com also has an upcoming jacket offering that you should give serious consideration too. A third option would be an off the rack jacket from Wested leather. The Wested jacket would be the most expensive option if you live in the USA but not so if you live Great Britain.

If you are on a tight budget I would suggest you check out the Cairo Bazzar forum and you may find some excellent "used"jackets for less than $150.00.

I just noticed that you live in Canada so I am not sure how currency conversions and shipping fees may affect you.

I hope this information helps you in your search

Hey guys It's me, Mr." I just need help with this jacket thing." Yaaa. anyway Bro. stay away from those guys!!! They say it has handwarmers but it don't,They say it has inside pockets and you guessed it, it don't. They say it's JUST like Indy's and, well, are you seeing a pattern here! It fits good but the leather is very thin even for lamb.To tell you the truth, I'm not sure it's even leather. The back panel only goes down to about two inches above the straps, and if you try to return it you have to send it to Pakistan where it was made. It was the first jacket I ever ordered and as a result, well, the result is I'm now a member here. :-k I guess it wasn't a total loss :- these guys are good people. Anyway, I figured I'd throw my $145 in. I did get them down to $100 if I just kept it!

Sorry my fellow club members , but I just can't let anybody else go through what I did!

Peace

OK bargle,
In all seriousness, I'll suggest to you this jacket option as well:

http://www.gibson-barnes.com/Expedition ... rod_id/64/

Very well made, highly durable and pretty darn accurate.
They are sized by chest measurement, 38,40,42 etc. Plus they offer 'tall' sizes.
You can go Lamb or Goat.
The Goatskin is for truckdragging! The titanium of leathers!

It's interesting that there are such negative reactions to their Indy jackets, when the Rocketeer and Mad Max jackets get okay reviews from the fans. Well, the MM jacket itself gets good reviews. The shoulder armor on the other hand. :-0

Thanks for the advice Raider 57.
I was actually thinking today "I want a jacket that would withstand a good Indy style truck dragging" but alas my budget doesn't agree. However I will definitely keep it in mind for a down the road purchase - no pun intended. ;)

First I heard of Southbeach, was when looking for the MM Jacket, thought with that name it was based in Florida or California. Then with all the Horror Stories, heard there was a place in Canada that made a Top Quality Copy. Of course as a collector and Movie Fan, I'm waiting for The Indy Jacket from "US Wings", and am working on this gear first. Besides, it was easier to find an MKVII Bag than an Interceptor...

Oh yeah, the place in Canada (Abbeyshot Clothiers) does make good jackets... for lots of money. :)
I saw one at Dragon con in 2006 and wanted it... but didn't have $500+ to spend on it sadly. :(

Nor the extra $20K for an Interceptor. ;)

According to Southbeach Leather's eBay auction this is a picture of the back of their jacket. This picture is only on eBay and apparently not on their website.
I suspect it is not really what they are selling. http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/3/1/2/7/ ... 2029_o.jpg

Ya that's it. if ya notice the pic stops just below the straps. If it went down to the bottom of the jacket you would notice that the back panel stops right at the top of the straps and doesn't go all the way to the bottom, also like I said the handwarmer pockets( on mine at least) are not there. there is no inside pockets, and for being new, It sure doesn't smell like leather at all. Maybe I just got a fluke. All I know is I will not order from them again. :x
