That was really enjoyable. I wish I would have known about that place when I was last in Portland. Maybe you can give us a first-hand report sometime.

That is really cool! Thanks for posting John. I did not know that about the Mongolian horsemen wearing the "Cowboy" style hat first.

Interesting to say the least.

Funny thing: a volendam hat should come from the town of Volendam here in the Netherlands. Let's see if I can find out what it looks like.

Regards, Geert.

EDIT: it's what the guy in this picture is wearing:

Can you show her this picture John?

I thought the volendam hat was a woman's hat, as pictured in this link for Dutch costumes.

You are right, but the hat the guy is wearing is also called Volendam or Volendammer. As far as I can see one is what in Dutch is called a kap (a piece of traditional ladies headwear made of lace) and the other would be called hoed (Dutch for hat :P ). I'm no expert on this type of clothing and headgear, but that is what browsing Dutch sites on the subject has suggested to me.

Oh, and Michaelson, I assume the one on the right is female, since cross-dressing was illegal when this picture was taken :P

Too bad though that a museum like that is so far away from me. I would have loved to visit it.
