A custom hat for how much?!

$15 at the Miami-Dade County Fair and Expo. And we've been paying Steve, Marc, and John exponentially more why? ;)

Yeah, I think those guys, AB and John, actually charge extra NOT to put on the air brushed pics and names. The question is.....WHY??? Fedora

I thought you guys would get a kick outta that. My brother in-law saw it and says to me "How much do you pay for your hats?" You couldn't pay me to wear that hideous thing! The funny thing is that folks were buying them. The type of people you'd think. That may be stereotypical, but true.

The funny thing is that folks were buying them.
Ever see Billy the Exterminator on the Discovery Channel? He wears one of those funky black straw westerns with side brims pinned up outrageously. But hey, I am glad to see any hat on the young folks that has a brim all the way around. You ever notice how many young folks refer to caps as hats? I finally got tired of explaining what a real hat is, to them.

One day hats will come back into fashion, for the masses. Fashion has a habit of repeating itself, although a hat fad may be just that, a temporay fad, that goes away within a couple of years.

I would love to see hats come back on a more permanent level, as it would be so retro to see almost every man with a hat on his head. As long as they sported a more traditional hat, and not ones in pink and purple with flashing colored lcds and strobes. Or hats with popular culture business logos running across each side of the crown. Wouldn't want the hats to turn into the t shirt deal. "Been there, seen it, and bought the hat". Fedora

You already see hats like that. Watch a poker match and some of those guys are wearing big western hats with logos plastered all over the place. It's sickening. I'd love to see the day when hats are back as well, but I think you hit it on the head. It will be a fad. 70s fashion made a comeback a couple years ago, as did 80s. 90s fashion is starting to reemerge. They come up for a short period of time and go away. Hats may do the same. I'm seeing more of them today, though they are usually straw stingy brim hats you can buy at Target or some place like that. Not exactly what I'd call a fedora, but its better than nothing.

I experienced the same thing at our local Wal-Mart, Dave.

I was in the market for a backup garden hat, and was hoping to find an inexpensive wide brim straw. They had an entire shelf of stingy brim hats, and nothing BUT stingy brim. There was even a fellow there selecting one for himself, and walked off with one in hand, so folks are buying them.

I never did find a back up hat, so I'll stick with my old 20 year old tried and true New Zealand made canvas hat.

What's so strange about that? People buy Dorfman Pacifics all the time, and they are just an airbursh stroke away from being just as worthless!

Sorry bink, couldn't resist.

Seriously though, these hats SCREAM "Bienvenido a Miami"! I can totally envision their intended clientel. The same folks who take a picture of them with their boyfriend/girlfriend and then get those photos printed onto matching T-shrits.

ROMANTICO!!

maboot's gone mad! Somebody get me that tranquilizer gun already!

I come across plenty of cheap "garden worthy straw hats in the thrift stores around here. Just plunge them in a vat of Lysol and you should be good to go.

That song by Will Smith may be the best thing about Miami! And you guessed right. Those were the intended clientel. And boy were they buying! They also had a bunch of those t-shirts you mention, the air brushed type. Man, are those classy. Pretty much folks from Hialeah were buying. Hialeah is Miami's New Jersey.

So what's the Minnesota of Miami?

I was once upon a time the proud owner of a girl-friend matching airbrushed t-shirt while on spring break one year in college. Well, I wouldn't say proud owner, but it did keep me in her good graces for quite some time. :D

I have to admit that I had one as well, given to me by my girlfriend at the time who was Peruvian (is it a latina thing maybe?) but I never wore it in public!

It may very well be a latina/o thing. Miami is about 75% latino and many times, its that community buying the stuff. Now, don't take this the wrong way, my parents are Cuban. We just don't like that stuff. Too ghetto for me. I love that some people do wear clothing like this because it gives me something to laugh about.
