Wested Washed Goat

Post by IndyRich »

Hey all
I'm planning on getting another wested at the end of the month so I sent off for a washed goat and authentic lamb leather sample. I didn't like the goat when I first saw it, so I was set on getting a good old lamb, that was up until an hour ago. I decided to test the leather to see what would happen if I fell over or snagged the jacket. I wrapped the Lamb sample around my finger and quickly dragged it down a wall, nearly lost my lost my finger tip. There is a chunk missing out of the leather now, no surprise really.

Then I did the same with the washed goat, didn't feel a thing! got a nice scuff on the sample but that's about it!

I am so getting a Washed goat at the end of the month. \:D/

Your walls must be made of Cinder Blocks! Kidding aside I love my Wested washed goat, the leather is amazing. Mine is almost a year old and I just wore it in a rain storm just a couple of days ago now it's formed to my body better and I love it even more. You can't go wrong IMO.

I just ran the samples down the side of the house, which is made out of your standard run of the mill house brick. Didn't apply that much pressure.

Can't wait to order the Goat

I have ruined 2 soft leathers by scraping past a wall while walking home. And yes, alcohol was invloved. ](*,)

Exactly. Wested's lamb is soft enough to mark pretty easily. Mind you, everyones definition of 'ruined' is probably different; I never mind a few new marks on my jackets!

send an email to them. there should be no cost. but you should be very lucky if you get the samples. they tend to forget sending them out if asked for them.

I'm not sure samples are the most reliable basis for durability tests. Any animal hide has parts that are weak and pretty useless - which is why they don't get used in jackets (or whips for that matter) - but are left as cut offs. I suspect that it's such cut offs that are used as samples. Good for showing colour and grain - but not necessarily durability. Just a thought.

If I was a vendor i would never let go a weak bit as a sample. They anyway have plenty of cut off of great quality leather.

However I would'nt rely on a sample. Better rely on pics and testimony of experimented members.

Well, samples I've received in the past from Wested have been end and side scrap cuttings, and were only offered to show texture and color.

When I asked for a sample of the Washed Goat, Gemma asked that I cover shipping, which was at 2 British pounds/$3.16 American dollars. Seeing how it wasn't that much to receive the sample and PayPal converts the currencies for you, I just went ahead and did it. Hopefully it'll be here soon b/c I'm really siked about their Washed Goat \:D/ .

Personally, I would avoid the authentic lamb. Doesn't have a lot of character or "heft" to it. The washed goat, however, is a nice hide. I've had a couple of jackets made out it and really like it.

I've got an authentic lamb, and a washed goat. The goat wins hands down. The color on my lamb doesn't seem to be wearing off, it appears to almost be flaking off. Other than that it is a beautiful jacket, but just not the kind I would want to wear when bashing into houses. I would liken this jacket to a dress or formal jacket.

The goat, while appearing worn, is very soft. I have a Cooper goatskin A-2 that is like a piece of plywood compared to the washed goat. The washed goat also has a very substantial and durable feel to it. I haven't run into any houses with it, but I have been out in the woods several times in the last 5 months without any ill effects.

The Washed Goat sample just arrived and all I can say is that I "love" the look of this leather hands down. Its not too dark and not too light...perfect shade and distressed appearance for that Raiders or Temple of Doom look.

Man, I'm so tempted, lol. We're getting ready to go on vacation, so if I don't go for it before, it's a definite as soon as I get back ;) . I just hope that Wested keeps this leather choice available for a long time!
