I'm very happy now that in my house there is a perfect place where stand my hat. Thanks John for your beautiful hat stand, not only very practical but a good piece of decor

Steerpike; That lid still brings a tear to my eye. Looks great on the stand! Even better on the noggin'! :D

I kind of noticed that most of the LC types seem to go easy on the 'cowboy curls' - Anyone got an LC that's all cowboyed up? I quite like them because I think the narrower brim suits my boat race better.

Hollowpond's is one of the nicer ones with lost of curl. I'm not a big fan of that look on me, but I'm sure John could get you good 'n' curly, Ian!

Oh yeah! #-o

Sorry, when I was researching my comment, I looked at a shot of your hat that didn't look that curled up. Sorry, must have just been the angle. Travis's and Jnickem's don't seem to have any curl at all. I know Chewie requested non.

Lovin' the curls in THAT shot, shows it off perfectly. :D

I can put the curl in so it doesn't come out but need to add stiffener to the brim. If you guys don't want any added stiffener all you need to do is curl the sides with your hands. Train it very time you touch the hat. After some time it will adjust and stay. Think of it like training your hair when you change hair styles.

So, you supply hair curlers?

I figured that would have to be done. You not a fan of the stiffener John?

Oh aye. I know it's a personal preference. I think they look awesome either way, but for me it's 'Yeeeharr!!!' all the way.

I think I'll be asking John for the Venice scene where they meet Dr Scheider. The lid seemed to have lob-sided curl in that scene. Love it!! (Maybe he could also make me a Dr Schneider, also from that scene. Giggerty!!! )

I know that John has cracked the Raiders lid perfectly and can make virtually any hat requested, but IMO (for what it's worth) he owns the LC look.

Im ok using stiffener and the customer is always right. If you want stiffener added to keep th ecurl in your LC. You only need to send me a e-mail to add that to your order form.

Stop being humble John ;)

Well, I reckon that you know best and if I'm the customer and I'm always right that makes my 1st statment correct. (breathe)

I just wondered about your personal views on it. I think I prefer less stiffener, but that is only based on my prefered feel of the hat. I also like the dynamic look of a lid with very little stiffener in it, constantly morphing slightly each time it's handled.

John called me when he was making my hat and asked if I wanted any stiffner in the brim. The desired effect of that of course is the brim curl. I decided I really didn't want any stiffner. So that's why my brim doesn't have much of a curl.

...but if you wanted, you could train it to curl like John said. Doesn't matter though 'cos it looks awesome on y' ! :) I guess it's like having the turn in the Raiders lid. Either way it looks awesome, but I'd prefer mine to have turn. I know some people request no turn.

Are you about 7' tall or something? I know you have a large hat size, but the hat doesn't look big on you at all. :)

Yeah, if I wanted the curl I can get it... but after having it for this long I really like how the brim looks as it is.

Haha and you're pretty close with the 7 feet tall! I am 6'2"... with a 24 1/4" noggin'! I have the same head size as my father... but he's 6'5".

Thanks Dave! My favorite hats from LC are the ones that are beat up and full of character. I do truly love this hat. Sometimes I wish the block were a just a tiny, tiny, bit fuller and then I will look at it in a picture like this one and just say, "Heck no! That thing is sooo LC!" I think I'm just going to have to get John's raiders hat as well to scratch that itch. Most of my gear is an amalgam of what Indy wore in all the movies, and not SA to any one movie, but this hat STAYS an LC. :TOH: Thanks again John for a great hat.

Scott, your a funny dude. I don't know if you've been told that before. But you make me laugh, man.

Back to Penman news. I placed my order for Penman #5 earlier this week. Should arrive sometime in October or September so it will either be in time for Halloween (the one day out of the year I don't wear a hat) or my anniversay. Either way pretty cool. What a great present huh? I told John he had complete control over this one, a relief, I'm sure, after the head aches I've put him through regarding specs and even colors. So, John is at the helm of this hat. It might be the first hat he has made for someone (besides himself) that he has complete creative control over. I'm very excited to see this hat, to say the least. I know it won't be like anything I already have because John had me send him pictures of ALL my hats so that he can see what colors were missing and what styles I already have. This should be fun.

What I am equally excited is the arrival of my wife's Lady Penman. We should have it some time next week. We are both really excited about this hat. I'll be sure to post pics of it and her wearing it here and in the Lady Penman thread in the Vendor's section so that you all can see it. I'm sure we will all be buying our wives these hats in the near future.

You have to check out the Vendor's section more often. John has just released a line of Lady Penmans. They are womens hats. Some vintage looking, some a bit more contemporary. But they all look fantastic.

Congrats, fuzzjunk! You will not be dissapointed with this hat. I have a beaver Raiders hat from John too. It was my first one. These babys soften up over time and are just as soft and floppy as rabbit but with the density and durability that only beaver supplies. My beaver Raiders is my go-to rain hat. You will love this hat and be back for more too. Better just to give John your account number and routing number, like I did, and just have the hats show up regularly.

I don't know. I only have one Indy hat from John. With that Raiders hat and my two Indy hats from Steve, I don't need anymore. So, the others have all been completely custom jobs. So, for this one, I've told John he has complete control. He is chosing the color, style, ribbon, and all that jazz. I asked him recently if he had any ideas yet and he told me. "I'm not telling you anything. You'll just get a box at your doorstep." I trust John...

I don't know whether it will be beaver or rabbit. All four Penmans I have are beaver, so a rabbit one would be nice. In fact, the only rabbit hats I have are vintage ones, come to think of it. A Penman rabbit in the South Florida heat and humidity would be fantastic. The beaver hats can get quite hot in mid-July, at around 100 farenheit with almost 100% humidity. But, either way, I'll take it, rabbit or beaver.

I joked with John about making me a top hat...he said no.

I'm sure he's capable of making a top hat although may not have the ceiling height.

The weather here is perfect for hat wearing, although most wear baseball caps which I can't stand. It's still frosty here in the morning and believe me the blue skys we have at the moment (despite the volcano) are a false friend.

I think my Nordic physiology would let me down if I ever came to Florida. :Dietrich:

Keeps my head warm when it's cold and because I'm not used to the sun, helps me maintain my pale blue colour when it's sunny..Awesome! :)

Really can't wait to see my raiders. The bashing vids that John posted make the felt look yummy! :P

Well, I'll be looking forward to your new lid. I trust you'll conform to 'new hat' etiquette and post pictures. :)

I have seen the lightweight felt you speak of and I'm not impressed with it.

As have I. I've seen an Optimo featherweight and I definately need something more substantial. The wearther in Miami is so unpredictable, plus, I really REALLY wear my hats. Rain or shine, its on my head. The abuse they take is great. I'd need more than that to actually put it in my regular rotation.

Ian, rest assured, I will be posting pictures. In fact, I have been wanting to do a Penman photo shoot and post pics of all my Penman hats, some of them now nearly two years old (my Raiders one).
