Re: whip cracking.
Hello Bernie,
what you saw on youtube is a typical show of Italian folklore.
Exactly is a region of Italy called Emilia Romagna.
The word "sciucaren" that you read on the title of the video means cracking.
cheers

Re: whip cracking.
I have always been very curious as to what kind of whip it was.
i watch that video every morning and it starts my day off great.
Does anyone know what whip it is? I know it is some kinda stock whip but the handles are so flexible.
thanks
Clarke

Good find Bernie
I bet Gio can tell us what type of whip they are using . Almost looks like a type of buggy whip.

Re: whip cracking.
These flexible whips have agricultural origins.
Some aspect to these whips can remember the bullock whips because they are made in two parts:
The handle is constructed of a special wood called "Bagolaro" or "Vermilion", which was reduced to 4 thin segments which, after being twisted, were dried in the sun.
the handle length varies from 60cm up to 130cm (23 "to 51")
The thong is a long rope made of hemp fiber or "canapa" twisted together
In Ron Edwards's book "How to Make Whips" in the handle section, you can see this type of stock.
I hope that this explanation was clear and sorry for the poor quality of the pictures.
You can see another whip on this site:

Ps: I have plans to build a target whip made with this type of handle about 12 "long

Re: whip cracking.
I have one of those whips.
Didn't know much about it though.
A friend of mine found it in a park and sent it to me.
He did try to find the owner prior though.
