Wested novapelle gone?

Post by jamesdell »

I've been waiting nearly a week to hear back from Gemma about a few things before I ordered a jacket. One of those things was how the supply of novapelle was so that I would be sure I wouldn't be waiting too long. Well I was checking out the order page today and Novapelle is gone :-k .
In it's place (or maybe I didn't see it before) is "Soft Seal Brown Cowhide." The good news is that it doesn't cost £10 more, but I'd like to know a little about it first.

Does anybody have any information about this change?

P.S. This is my first post in this forum, but I've been lurking for about two weeks and have been overflowing with information intake. You have all been invaluable in my search.

It would be a shame if the Novapelle was gone. I've not seen any in person myself, but from pics, it seemed to be one of the nicest hides coming out of the barn.

Perhaps their leather source dried up? As I recall, it was Argentinian cowhide? Well, if the novapelle is truly gone, then those of us who own them will cherish our jackets all the more. Nothing lasts forever...

Could be. I doubt Argentina has run run out of cowhide though ;)

That was funny RCS. My novapelle Raiders is definetly my favorite jacket. I love that hide.

Oh no, that's really the case. But what happened? I just see, that now there is no difference anymore, considering the leather prices....should this mean that the quality of horsehide has gone down? I think this ought to be clarified. What about people who wanted to order NOVAPELLE or HH? They must be rather confused now. :o

Did someone already call Wested? Any news?

I just got off the phone with Peter. He told me that the tannery has not shipped him the novapelle hide recently. He also said that the tannery continues to promise him that they will ship it too him "soon". In the meantime he apparently has a great deal of orders for novapelle, so he has removed it from the site until he receives more.

Regarding the soft seal brown cowhide, he says it is the same quality leather as novapelle, but without a the distressed finish. He mentioned that it did have a nice grain.

I am paraphrasing quite a bit, so don't take this as gospel. I'm also very new to the leather jacket game, so I'm not entirely up on proper wording, but hope this helps anybody else like myself and lc_fan who wondered what happened.

Looks like our current alternatives are the seal brown cowhide or to wait and see if Peter ever gets more novapelle.

O.K. thank you for this information! That's a little bit what I thought: The soft seal brown cowhide is more or less the same leather (perhaps even EXACTLY the same) but without distressing. Hm, but acutally that's what I wanted, a distressed adventurer indy jacket. Now the question is, what "soon" means. 1 week, 1 month or even longer? A picture of the brown cowhide would be useful...

Another unsolved mystery is, why the additional costs for horse hide disappeared. :-s

The way I remember it, there was only an extra cost for the novapelle. Maybe some members who have bought the HH remember this better. To be fair I was very cowhide (i.e. novapelle) focused, and didn't really pay that much attention to the other hides.

For myself, I'm thinking of going with the soft seal brown cowhide. I can distress it with wear, and in the meantime make members like Michaelson proud.

Someone on this forum has one of those new Wested cowhide jackets (not novapelle). I thought I saw a picture of it on here, but I did a search and couldn't find it. Anyone know where that is?

This one? He did call it Dark Brown instead of Seal Brown though. I went over this helpful review in trying to make my decision. I'd love a follow up if he's around.

Just to confirm, I ordered a XO jacket(stock) and Gemma said I was lucky because they have no more Novapelle(if i wanted custom). I love that leather, I have the LC I got from a fellow COW and it is great!!

Yep, that´s my jacket. Soft dark brown cowhide was just the name Gemma told me when I asked her what exactly was used for my jacket.
But going by the colour you could also call it seal brown.
The leather really distresses itself when you wear it, which is really nice and gives the jacket a lot of character after some weeks.

Hi,

I sent back a custom novapelle because it did not fit near from 2 month ago.
This jacket has to be remake (taking exemple from my goatskin that fit perfectly).
Gemma sent me a mail yesterday: novapelle should be back in 2 weeks...
I should receive my jacket(s) in one month from now then, if not delayed once again.

Best regards,

nico

Nicolas.

just remember the raiders jacket and the LC jacket have two different patterns. it may not work to use your raiders as an example for making a LC.

even though your raiders fit perfect it may not be the same for LC. I suspect that when you recieve the LC back you still would have alittle hard time by putting your hands inside the handwarmers. this the cut of the jacket. the armnoles are cut to much towards the front, which I believe this is the original way of the LC jacket seen on screen.

Yep I know Holt, in fact I ask for those modifications.

The jacket will be slightly lengthen, the front will be 2" longer, armholes reduced.

Not SA? Maybe, but wearable...

Good by the way, you remember this "too short jacket and unreachable handwarmers" problem...

I pray every evening before bedtime, i hope it will be right this time. Delivery has been delayed several times

regards

I am waiting for novapelle to return into stock. I will wait till the middle or at most end of the week after the following week. Hopefully it will be available sooner.

Could it be that wested doesn't distress the jackets / leather? Should mean that the used leather is already distressed when it arrives at wested's company.

Could anyone tell me, which sort of leather is mostly comparable to "Novapelle"? I mean, if it won't be in stock in a short time, I would have to choose something. Is horsehide really the most durable leather they have? Which hides apart from novapelle are also distressed in the same way?

Cheers :TOH:
