Just so you guys will have an idea of what one of these coveted Penman's looks like after some wear, and the much needed break in period, here is a before and after:

Your well-worn fedora will also fee-float inside the photos that you take, yet another bonus!

By the way, John has to be the nicest vedor I have ever come across. I am almost certain his given name was John Customerservice Penman, because it certainly is his middle name!

Hey, thanks for the note. Unfortunately, I realized that this hat was a Henry with just John's magic bash work and thus didn't count for this thread, so I will have to find a new home for the pics. (http://indygear.com/cow/viewtopic.php?f ... 75#p664375)

But I def. owe John a debt of gratitude for always being willing to answer my countless questions. I cannot wait to recieve my Penman SOC hat and to show it off!

Should have recognised it. I've had a Henry now for a month and love it! :)

Over to the Henry thread. :TOH:

Hey everyone! I am really excited about making this post- as I have been waiting for way too long to get some decent photos taken of me WEARING my 3 Penmans! Well- the wait is over! Let's start with the first Penman I received, a Grey Raiders Seaplane:

Really classy quality lids you have there, Jnicktem. I really like the LC on you

I'm pondering a grey myself, but I always think that they suit more formal dress than casual - I'm hardly ever in formal. That said though, you pull off the causual with it as well. :)

Dude, you're a real Penman junkie! ;) How long before you get the Raiders? I've got a raiders beaver on order myself. Ordered in January, so I guess it should be due around June, but these masterpieces can't be rushed. :)

OK, my turn, at last!

The often requested (and until now, never delivered by me) the "freshly opened box" shot;

Within, a Last Crusade beaver, with just the right amount of stiffener for my tastes! Nice, deep rear crease...

And it fits like it was made for me! Uh.. wait... :anxious:

Great looking lid. Really suits you as well!! :) If I get one (very likely) I'm gonna ask for the Chewie LC. :)

Is that to Johns regular LC specs, or did you specify anything different to him?

Ian
The specs are John's standard for my hat size. I asked him to go easy on the side brim curl because I favor the less curled hats in LC. If you are used to Raiders dimensions, the crown will seem high in proportion to the brim. However, it's just a matter of getting used to that. I love it.

Awesome, Chewie!!! Can't wait for mine! Not to derail this too much, but I ordered the SoC in Rabbit from John with the tack down stitches above the brim break , just like the original hat. Since my Henry experiences a bit of ribbon slippage, I'm considering having it made the proper 'Penman' way with the stitching AT the brim break. Does the sloppy way promote, or help retain the 'mushroom effect' at all? Is the only positive screen accuracy? If so, I think I'd rather forego the ribbon slippage in exchange for a properly made hat. I've got time to decide, but was hoping for some opinions. Thanks guys!

What's the brim dims on your LC, Jnicktem? Chewies looks narrower than yours, but that might just be the angle. His crown also looks slightly higher - Did you tinker with the bash that John supplied it with? :-k

Face shape and shoulder width can have a profound effect on how big a hat's brim and crown look. Keep that in mind. It's one of the reasons that John, and the AB gents try to modify things based on size. It's not perfect, but it works 99% of the time.

Two (one non-Indy). There was a slight snag with a third, but John came through admirably in making things right. Just an unexpected snaffu. But I will order again. There are few vendors as eager to please as John. He knows the value of keeping customers happy.

I'm sure you'll love your LC, Ian. As I recall, our sizes are close, so the proportions should be the same.
