I like 'em. With the current promo going, free $10 gift card for orders over $50, I may have to pick up a pair.

OH! I like that color Tundrarider. Bean always offers a good range of sizes as well. I have some "close-enough" Bean pants now, but wrong color and no flaps.
That's a great find. Thanks for sharing !!

Re: New color for L.L. Bean Chinos?: Dark Driftwood.
These Driftwood pants replaced the same model in Dark Khaki. I own several, including the natural fit. Love them. I'm waiting to see what the Driftwood looks like when it pops up here, mainly because I can't justify buying another pair of LL Bean pants!
Tundrarider, if you don't already own a natural fit pair of LL Bean pants, be aware that they are cut a little more generously than the standard fit. The stretch waist is not the only difference.

Chewie, are they fairly true to size? In my experience, L.L Bean shirts are a little wonky in terms of sizing, just curious about the pants.

Thanks for the tip Tundrarider. I just ordered a pair. Like many of us, I am really into SA for a costume, but enjoy trying out a pair of "close enoughs" for daily wear.

Re: New color for L.L. Bean Chinos?: Dark Driftwood.
In my experience, the waist sizing is pretty accurate. The cut is rather roomy, I find, but that might just be on the larger sizes. Either way, it's a good look.theinterchange wrote:Chewie, are they fairly true to size? In my experience, L.L Bean shirts are a little wonky in terms of sizing, just curious about the pants.

I don't have much in the way of their shirts. Their sleeve lengths keep me away.

Actual, they do... http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/63019?fe ... ppxs&dds=yTundrarider wrote: I just noticed that the "Hidden Comfort Fit" does not come in Dark Driftwood at this time.
It is important to note for those who are detail-oriented; only the Hidden Comfort versions have slanted front pockets. The others are on-seam, straight up/down.
I see what you're saying. In that case, others be advised that the larger waist sizes run a little baggier. I actually wish mine fit like yours, Michael! As for fit, my Bean "Natural Fit" are a size 34 and though they are cut generously in the legs, (to me) they could be a bit baggier to match that 1930 blousey cut we see in Indy's pants. That's why I was considering going a bit larger and tailoring the waist.

I'll try to get a good photo of the waist with belt tomorrow. I don't find the pockets more noticeable, personally, though.

Re: New color for L.L. Bean Chinos?: Dark Driftwood.
Being a guy that has to wear larger sizes, let me try to explain the waist being mentioned. I don't think it is the scrunchy elastic sides that I am all too familiar with. I think it may be this other kind of waist where there is a gap in the waistband and possibly the side of the pants, and an elastic is sewn into the waistband. When not wearing the pants, or when standing still, it isn't very noticeable. Bending or moving makes it expand. Also, as most of you are HF waist like, these would be neat as they wouldn't expand much, if at all, and we'd have something to tide us over until we get Todd's pants. Rock.

I own a pair of Hidden Comfort pants. As you said, they really aren't very noticeable. Especially if you're wearing the belt, i don't see how one could really notice it at all-- they call them "hidden" for a reason. The piece that expands is halfway between the first and second belt loop on either side and it really just looks like the seam from the pocket.

And that's it stretched all the way. Just order your size and I don't ever see it stretching that far... When it sits relaxed, it's pretty unnoticeable.

Re: New color for L.L. Bean Chinos?: Dark Driftwood.
Exactly. Thanks for posting that pic, I wasn't sure if I was explaining that correctly. I wish more pants came that way, I hate the scrunchy elastic sides on my pants. I feel like I'm wearing mom jeans. And, as I feel most close enough pants don't have the diagonal pocket, this looks like it might be a great option.

Re: New color for L.L. Bean Chinos?: Dark Driftwood.
I agree. They look almost the same as the old dark khaki. Not they aren't nice pants, but I was expecting something darker.
Re: New color for L.L. Bean Chinos?: Dark Driftwood.
When I took theses pictures, I had the flash on, but if you look at the photo taken in the inside of the pair of pants, I was standing closer to it when I took the picture. As you can see here, the color is very darker vs. from being about 4in back in the other pictures.
Re: New color for L.L. Bean Chinos?: Dark Driftwood.
Heres another pictures to show the different between Dark Khaki and Dark Driftwood
If you notice on the left side of the photo the pair of Dark color Khaki pants, and the right side of the photo is the Dark Driftwood pair of pants. Please Note: the two colors are not the same.
But note: when you visit the L.L. Bean website, their color is too dark when they take the picture,
or maybe its prototype color that is not being used when the model is wearing them.

I REALLY l ike the color of these pants in the "opened at the waist" shot that's shown further up this page... looks like a pretty perfect color to me, actually...
...I guess the (eternal) question is:
Which of these photos is a 'truer' representation of what they look like IN reality and IN person?
Hmmmm...
I think this is the first time I've ever rubbed my chin more than once in a single Thread.
