Full Circle: Toht Fedora and my COW Beginnings

Post by Chewbacca Jones »

I was digging around for Toht gear discussions, and I bumped into this thread, which contains my very first post here on the Club!

The hat I mention in the thread is probably my long-gone Black Federation III. :-k

Now, years later, I am cobbling together a close-enough outfit at last. And just this past afternoon, I acquired a modified Christy's Adventurer that should do quite nicely as the topper for my outfit. 8)

I might (might) try modifying the bow a little, and if I end up wearing it a lot, maybe I'll upgrade to a custom version. I have my reservations about spending big on an all-black lid.

Hat looks great, I wouldn't touch the bow unless you're really worried about SA, but as you said you are putting together a close enough outfit.

What's your reservation about an all black hat?

So is anything, if you have cats with both light AND dark fur.

Wasn't there an old saying, "Never trust someone wearing a black hat"? 8)

Yep, an old Western cowboy saying....but then Lash Larue always wore black, as did Hopalong Cassidy and the Virginian. I guess it all depends...... :-k ;)

Plus we learned from Wesley Snipes..."always bet on black."

Michaelson is right about keeping them clean, but I keep my hats protected. I actually have a black hat, but with a non-black ribbon. My concern is purely about if I will wear it often or not. All black, especially with a bound brim, tends to look rather formal.

I had to cut my remarks a little short due to an interruption, so there is a little more to the issue. I love black. Black is awesome. But over the years I have learned that what I like in terms of clothing does not always suit me or my needs. I am hesitant to spend a lot of money on something I love but won't use. My black Fed made me look like a Mennonite or something... not that much of a stretch in Pennsylvania.

Add that to the fact that I have a closet-full of fedoras clamoring for wear, all-black has to prove itself a good enough choice to warrant frequent wear in light of the competition. I am hoping it works out. Nothing beats a black hat. That's why bad guys wear them. Bad guys always have nicer clothes!
