The sad thing is that, if he made 4 jackets that were used in Raiders as you believe, then that is plenty to be proud of and use as a selling point. The continued misinformation from his camp has not only muddied the waters concerning the jacket's history almost beyond comprehension, it has also hurt his reputation to the point that even what he may have actually achieved is questioned. It's the "boy who cried wolf" on hyperdrive.

And the recent debacle with the Layer Cake jacket on another forum shows that there are no lessons learned either.

Read through this one again. I believe this is just a comparison of what has been claimed since 1998 (note the date of the message), and what was done as discussed in the link above.

A lot of folks aren't aware of what has been sent to potential buyers all these years.

I do remember reading something to that effect (if not word for word) on the Wested site when I bought my first Indy jacket.

If this is true (and I have little reason to doubt _), then that's really a shame. I really do love some of my Westeds... What I regard as my 'favorite' leather jacket is a Wested, and they'll always have the distinction of getting me hooked on leather jackets, and for getting involved in this forum in the first place. This is just too bad about the whole thing.

Hey, hey, hey, now, fellas....I just heard some distant rumblings from the hills and dales, far and wide....it got me to wonderin' just what it might be. So, I had to come take a look! And I have to say, I am quite intrigued to say the least!

I knew I could count on a "warm" reception, though! So....honestly....what's new? ;)

That was a joke....

Good GRIEF have I got some reading up to do! Seems the whole world is turned inside-out and upside-down!

Anyway...._ is on the right track, it seems to me, as well. Oddly enough, and no I have had NO real idea you guys were up to any of this level of discussion about the jackets, but I've been re-watching ALL the movies very carefully over the last month or so just trying to iron out all the inconsistencies...., having, of course, been privy to SOME of the story from SOME of the people.

Looks like I really did "feel a disturbance in the force."

Good work, and I'm going to have to dive in head-first on this one. Somebody give me a job...something to research....I need a mission!

High Regards, guys!

To those of you who don't know Indy Dawg, he's one of our original ORIGINAL jacket researchers and past staff members here at COW. It's always good to see him when he surfaces. We need give him a heavier rock to swim with though, boys. :-k :[

He's not kidding. If you have anything you want to toss his way for research, go for it. I bet he has notes to go with it.

...and as for a 'warm reception'.....

Dang, it's good to be back around....and good to see you guys haven't changed...too much ;) .

Ok, _-You've never been an apologist-you MUST have mellowed out! I've never minded turning over the rocks, or dealing with what's underneath-at least as long as it wasn't snakes. I've never minded worrying whether someone was or wasn't pleased by the truth...as long as I knew it to be the truth.

So, I guess my only question is, what do you know to be true? Anything else is white noise.

And, yes, Michaelson- I plan on bein' around for a good, long, while...at least until I get tossed out of the joint. So-please, folks....I'm not as sharp as _ OR Michaelson (or most people, for that matter), but I do, indeed, have notes to compare and contrast, and what "old-school" knowledge is still rattling around in this cranium of mine.

It's just good to be here! Somebody get me a drink....make it a whiskey!

Oh SNAP! What up, Dawg? Old Skool Indy in da hood. What made you come up to the surface for some air at this particular time?

Ironic that I was just reading over some old posts (yours mixed in of course) today in the Indyfan vaults. Absolutely astonishing how the attitudes and opinions of some old skool members are so drastically different than they were back in the day. I guess time allows some people to forget some things they did and wrote. What it must have been like to be a "...fly on the wall..." ;)

What bottle of liquer you been dragging around with you lately?

Honestly, I really have been finally having some leisure time recently and started about a month go (with NO knowledge of the rumblings going on here) re-watching the movies with a mind to getting back into the quest for the perfect jacket. Lo and behold things are even more complicated now than they were way back when! But...that does make for interesting research.

Was and always have been a bourbon man...primarily anyway...

And yeah, _-it has been a very long time. Yes....I do believe that was his name....no love lost there. I can't even remember the other guy's name....

All these years later....my vintage cowhide Expedition and Aero HH A-2 are the only leather jackets I still have....I've just been in hibernation (hibernation sicknes really IS a #$%^), waiting for the right time to resurface.

I'll be looking for your PM...

Good to talk with you guys!
Later on!

there is also this, from indyfan.com
The Jacket
Peter Botwright, wested@compuserve.com, of Wested Leather writes...
"May I confirm that it was my company which made the jackets for Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones in the Raiders films. I still have the original patterns and specifications which date back to 1980. I was originaly commissioned by Bermans and Nathan Costumiers to make the jacket which was one of my designs dramatically altered to fit the requirements of the film's designer and of course Mr. Harrison Ford himself. Over the three Raiders films I made a total of 48 jackets covering the stunt men, stand-ins and Harrison Ford, for whom we had made jackets before. Lucasfilms have licenced companies to make copies of the jacket but they are only poor imitations as I have always kept the original design. I can supply to you an original specification duplicate of the exact jacket worn by Harrison Ford."

"Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time...a LONG time!"

He came and visited my house once...brought four or five jackets, three whips (one MAGNIFICENT David Morgan 10 ft), and we commenced to disturbing the neighborhood (lived in a fairly upscale subdivision then)...Indiana Joe was there with us, too....anybody know where he is? Good guy...

Yep, Indy Diggs, run by Max Schulte, most content supplied by me, and owned by Mike Davis of Phoenix, AZ. Mike flat disappeared from radar never to be heard from again, unless he changed names and went underground in the hobby. :?

Max was around for a few years afterwards, then HE completely disappeared from the hobby. I do not know what happened to Max. He and I corresponded almost daily, then....nothing. He was located in Germany.

Old Dale is still right here, and writes under the name whipwarrior.

Sounds like there's a rich and even turbulent history to this online fan-dom that most of us relative newcomers are unaware of. Makes you wonder why some fans from "the old days" are still active posters, and why some have gone the way of the proverbial dodo. Internet forums inherently bring occasional drama, it goes with the territory. I'm sure many of us newcomers would get a kick out of hearing more stories and tales of those who came before us. Occasional drama isn't always a bad thing. I don't doubt that some good even came from past skirmishes.

This all highlights an important thing. Much as this site is fun, it’s also about helping fans to the truth so that when they make a choice to buy a jacket (or whatever) they can have all the correct information in order to buy wisely. I would have bought G&B right away if I knew 7 years ago what I know now.

I never expected in my more naive days that a vendor would cheerfully, knowingly tell us things that were inaccurate. I was astonished. Not any more. Now whenever there’s news, I know to wait a bit and watch for the real story to gradually emerge.

I don't know, SkyChief, you've been a member since 2004, that's pretty old by internet standards.

In terms of tales of yore, jump to the earliest pages of any section and read through those old threads. There's interesting stuff in there with, at the time, new discoveries and new vendor offerings.

The Archives is also a great place to read through history and those can be very pertinent since those threads were deemed important enough to specifically archive.

Finally, if you have the time, click on the indyfan.com link at the top of the page for some real old time fun.

Yeah, I don't really understand it. It's like the childhood game of whispering into someone's ear, and by the time it gets around, its nearly a completely different story, or a mushroom cloud...? At the very least, the hero jacket and three stuntmen's jackets were made and usable for the movie. Why wasn't that good enough?

We may or may not never know the complete truth, but at least, efforts have been made to pare it down, significantly.
