THEMAN's Indyish jacket find...

Post by theman »

Saw this J. Crew take on a Vintage and fell in love with its Indy nature...
Found out these were going for $795  from J. Crew directly when they were available, but extremely limited to find. I love bi-swing backs, and this one goes into a half belt design as well. J. Crew site says I should be in a Large, but I took the chance on this medium as that was all I could find. Turns out they are oversizing them American style as this Medium fits my 44R frame just right. 19" across shoulders, 23" across chest, 26" sleeves, 25" back.

That's a score and a half! About as Raiders-ish a jacket as I have ever seen, without being an Indy jacket even! And the pricing info makes it all the more rich...sorry, the pun was not intended.
It's Indy-ish, with a more street-worthy style. I can really dig it!
Congrats on such a great find!

Nice jacket. I wouldn't think it's based on anything. I'd say it's a meld of a 1940's half belt with a 1930's untility jacket and a bit of Indy, which in itself is a hybrid jacket anyway. I have to say I don't much like the massive cargo pockets. Slash pockets would be better for a true period look, given the half belt back IMO.

That's great! Personal taste is fantastic. But vintage taste opens a whole new can of worms... and perhaps isn't much to do with this site. :)

Yes. Very cool. Just different enough, and with all my favorite details.

Yeah, love the wrinkliness of the trim areas. Good stuff.

Thanks for the words guys... I believe this is a cowhide. Apparently it is a hand distressed leather. Found the jacket to be from the fall 2007 lineup.

Thanks Mitch.
Hmmm, I have a couple fronts and a back up here in the thread and the pics come up on every variation of browser and OS I have available... not sure what else I can do.

:-k
Hmmm...
Weirrrd...

For some reason I was only seeing the second of the three photos yesterday (despite refreshing the screen several times) but NOW I'm seeing all three quite clearly.
And I thought something was wrong on your end, my friend... my apologies!
Looks like it was my computer that needed a good night's sleep first.
Anyway, I'm happy to withdraw my request (and to tell you that pictures 1 & 3 are not only just as nice, but also show just what I was looking to see.

Again, GREAT jacket!
