DarenHenryW that is the nicest LC fedora I have seen. So clean and crisp, with great lines.
And John, since you look this way too, that makes us the Bobsy Twins! Fedora

Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues...
I love that hat of yours Daren!!!! I wore my Penman LC out just the other day!
And I have plans for 2 Penmans (not counting the Panama), I am looking at one Rabbit Raiders and one custom... in guess which felt? That's right.... Charcoal!!! I love the look of that felt... and I will HAVE to get me one before John's waiting list hits 2 years! (Once word gets out he makes some flippin' fantastic lids.... so everyone... quiet!).

Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues...
I have half a mind to order another charcoal hats with the same specs as the one I already have and put the vintage maroon ribbon John has on there. I really think that charcoal hat is the finest one he has made me. A true 1930's fedora except made now! I think it all started because of that color. I look at that color and think of how all the old gats worn by Bogie, Gable, Cooper, amd Stewart appeared on the silver screen. They either looked like silverbelly or charcoal! Now they're true colors were probably beautiful, but that is what WE saw. So everytime I look at my charcoal hat, I am put in that frame of mind. Couple that with the classic bow and knot work and a beautiful block, don't know which one was used for that hat, and you have a real 30's ha for today.

There is nothing boring about seeing another pic of a Great hat by John! Simply Grand! Now my wheels are turning about a LC from him! Thanks for sharing!!DarenHenryW wrote:I hope I'm not boring everybody with with more pics of me wearing my Penman LC in my bathroom, but I took these tonight, and I like them, so here they are:

My next Penman is gonna be a non-Indy, sort of custom hat in Charcoal, probably with a black ribbon. John and I talked for a long time about it the other day. Won't be on my head till May at the earliest, but you know, gotta plan ahead for these things . . .

Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues...
Mitch,
Wow, thanks! I'm so glad you like it! I love it! I can't wait to get John to make me Raiders hat. Well, I keep saying that, though I guess I can wait, since I told him to postpone my Raiders hat to have him make me a custom hat . . . but its eating me up! I wish I could afford both at the same time!
Steerpike,
I know how you feel! Seeing you in that Magnoli Washington Suit! We're feeling the same envy, just for different gear! You look great in that thing!
Dave,
Yeah, I know I'm gonna love the charcoal hat. I stayed up nights thinking about it: maybe a green, maybe a dark blue. But the charcoal just seemed the best answer. In the future, I hope to have them all, but I definitely want to start with a hat that I can wear with anything!
Marty,
I'm with you about the penny jar. That's what I'm basically doing with these hats. One at a time, and make sure I get the money saved up . . . I've taken on some extra work to pay for all of my Indy gear purchases; this way I don't buy too much at once, and I don't use my credit cards in any way. As soon as my charcoal hat arrives, I'm having John put me back on the list. As I told John the other day, the waiting is actually part of the fun!
Steve,
What can I say? That's a big compliment coming from you! And furthermore, YOUR hat is the one I'm looking for next in the mail! I'm more than excited to see what you're gonna do with my Raiders Rabbit! When I have John do mine, I'll think I'll have him do it in Beaver, just so I have a Raiders in each. Even though I know you guys know these hats better than just about anyone (Hi, Marc!) I'm kind of hoping that each hat is totally SA and totally unique from the other at the same time! Either way, I KNOW I will love them both!
To rest of the guys, JNickTerm, Michael,Digger4glory,and Noah
All I can say is I'm thrilled that you all like it so much! Thanks for commenting!
Now how about another set of pictures from another satisfied Penman customer?

Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues...
I'd like to have a Dillinger hat like yours, Jared. I just don't forsee a black hat purchase any time soon. Maybe I can buy enough of that ribbon and have it set aside for me when I do end up ordering it. Would that be possible, John? In fact, I don't see a hat in the near future. I have officially started my AB Deluxe fund. I hope to order by my birthday in July. After that its off to Steve for one last AB before he retires and then its John till the end. Problem is I don't know what to order from Marc since I don't want any more Indy hats. Time to put the ol' noodle to work. But this is a Penman thread so let's show them off!

David. My two cents for a ABD. Ask him to create something for you and then stay out of it.

I'm the worst. I call and pester about nuance details that I change over and over again. And then I want to chat about lots of different things and it usually ends with one person sobbing quietly while he is told that he is an annoying pebble in the other's shoe... Uhh...I didn't say that aloud, did I? Is this thing on?

For some strange reason I got this image in my head of John coming at you with a sword with the Immigrant Song blazing in the background.

This has gone down the tolit real fast. I just know how to deal with David now. I take his order and every time he calls to change specs or color or style or whatever. I tell him I'm writing it down but I don't. I wait until it's the last possible moment. Like just before I block his hat. I then call him up and ask him for the details.
Sorry david.

I know this is how you work with me John and if you did it any other way, you might end up in the Institute for the Very Very Nervous. Don't fret, though. For my next hat from you, like I have already said, you are getting full control. I won't ask for anything except that it is not brown. In my hatter shall I trust.

True dat.
Me too.
Interesting how quickly we all got so far off topic though... one minute it was Daren's amazing LC and Jared's awesome Maroon Ribbon number and suddenly we were wandering down the path of Led Zeppelin, pink hats, stilletos and who gets to be Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
So A A A N N N YWAY Daren:
After looking at it a few more times, I really feel compelled to say... I think your Last Crusade(r) IS the nicest I've seen yet!
To be honest, I'm so hardcore RAIDERS that I'd never really had that particular style of hat on my long-term "radar"... but after seeing yours I think I'm gonna HAVE TO put it on my Wish List!
