Exactly my thoughts!

At first I wanted to baby it too, but then I got caught in the middle of the first snowstorm (together with my girlfriend I was on my way to visit my brother) so I had no other choice. When we finally arrived at the hotel the hat was entirely covered with snow, it was white and then completely wet after brushing it off. I guess most of us here can imagine the look I got from my girlfriend when I was brushing the hat and then checking it every ten minutes for taper.

The next 4 days it was completely the same, but I reduced the babying and stopped constantly checking it. These were the first 5 days of owing this hat, and it showed me this one can take really quite a bit abuse.

I will wear it when I take the pictures of my new jacket. It´s wonderful how well both browns go together, it reminds me a lot of CS.

Yes, I do that with all of my hats. That and brushing it, these two things are the only babying I do.

Today I could take some pictures wearing the hat. Sadly I noticed too late the hat had shifted a bit sideways

By that time it was already even darker (but the whole day was actually quite dark, as were the others).
I´m very happy with how this hat feels, looks and matches my favourite scenes (or could with some bash-tweaking).

If you're in the UK, can you just order the Henry off Marc in Germany, or do you have to get it from John?

As an European ordering from Marc would probably easier as there wouldn´t be any customs. However John offers (for a bit more) a very nice hatbox.
But you will get great service from both John and Marc.

Generalfrosty, the hat looks great. I really ike the sparingly used Fuller´s Earth!
(If you take the pictures from a greater distance it would show the hat a bit better.)

Let me jump in and clear some things up.

You can order from anyone of us. Marc or Myself. If you live in the US or Canada it would save you in custom fee's to order from me. That would go for anyone in European countries would save ordering from Marc.

Now for the hat boxes. Right now marc and my hats are at the same price and neither of us ship them in a hat box. I used to charge a little more and send them in a Bengaline Penman hat box, I have been working on a special hat box for the Henry's. I will have them in the next week or so. When I do get them I will raise the price on the Henry to include the cost of the hat box. They will be weaver cloth and have the AB logo with the title "the Henry" on them. They will only be able to be gotten when buying a Henry form me.I will not sell them as not to compete with Peter's AB boxes.

Very nice looking lid generalFROSTY! These hats are great new but once you make them into your own, they are awesome!

I've been wearing mine dairly as well, and man, it's breaking in nicely. I found scrunching it occasionally helps. Perfect FE application, too!!

I appreciate the feedback.
The work I did to my Henry was gradual - both for safety of the felt and for me to get used to the change slowly. At first, I started with a very minimum amount of FE, but with some time to play around with it and get used to how the hat looks in various dusted states, I was able to settle on a 'medium' dusted appearence which I am quite happy with.

With all these awesome pictures tempting me, I've decided I want to order a Henry and it'd make more sense if I ordered it from Marc with him being so much closer to the UK.

So, if you want a Henry from Marc, do you just email him about it from his website? I can't seem to find a link that says what to do if you want to order one. I can't find the price for them or how you would pay him either.

This is the highest quality factory made hats. You will not find better. It has 20% beaver for two reasons. one is to give it a nice finish like a beaver hat and the other is to make it more resistant to the elements. I live in Oregon and it rains here a lot and the Henry is doing well.

I'll have to concur with Oak. I live in Seattle, which I'm sure rivals the NW UK in rainfall. I've maybe been overly carfeul with it, but it's definately been through some showers with no signs of damage. I will occasionally mist it with scotchguard, just to be safe. But this hat is TOUGH. Treat it that way, it breaks in sooo nicely.

Oregon is a close 2nd when it comes to rain. Portland is at the north west end. I can tell you I think I saw the blue sky ounce this year.

Today is the beginning of a whole week of sun in the Pacific NW, and I'm letting ol' Henry soak it up on the dash of my truck....I'm looking at it right now out the window. I've grown to love the darkish color, but some sun will only bring more of that 'lived in' look I'm looking for. Ian, you cannot go wrong with the Henry! Pics when you get it!

Here in the Northeast, Mother Nature recently dealt us a heavy coating of snow. I wore my Henry while clearing snow from my sidewalk and driveway. By the time I was done, the exterior of my Henry soaked from melting snow, and the interior was soaked with sweat. I set my hat upside down on its crown and in less than an hour, the hat was dry and looked good as new.

Also, I typically wear my hat whenever it rains, and there have been no ill effects.

Don't worry, Oak...My hat is normally on my head, but I wanted to let it sun itself on the dash for an hour or so. It's in full view from my office window. Is this bad for the hat or something? Or is it because of theft that we shouldn't leave hats in the car? I'd never let anything happen to it!! P.S. John..I'll be paypalling you on Monday for my Rabbit Raiders...funds are transferrring as I type. Thank god I have my Henry to tide me over

Especially in the summer, cars can get really hot inside. If you leave a hat inside a hot car for long enough, the heat can shrink and dry out your sweatband. Also, if your hat is wet before leaving it a hot car, it can shrink the felt. The best place for a hat is on your head, or inside on a hat stand.

Did that come bashed or is that by your own hand? I noticed some other lids knocking around your vicinity there. (One is never enough!

The shots from a distance really show it off better IMO. I think that the close up shots always throw the proportions out and make the brim look huge.

Still, seeing your shots is making me long even more for mine - On order.

Ian: Thanks for the comment. My Henry came bashed by John Penman and the only tweaking that I have done to it was on the pinch; made it a bit tighter. The other hat that you see in the photos is not my own but, belongs to my younger brother. It is his Christys, which screams for a reblock, for its condition has gone past the point of no return. He wants to get a custom penman, which I am on the waiting list for already and cannot wait.

Thought i'd add a couple of new pictures of my Henry, its been 1-year, and to show you all how the hat has held up. Now the hat is worn nearly every day, with a few other hats in the rotation, but this hat sees no less than four days a week...its the every occassion hat. Its only been bashed by myself twice, once when i first got it and here recently after a rainstorm. The hat has taken on a life of its own, and finally has some character, something lacking when brand new. And anyone with several hats will tell you each one takes on a life of its own, and tells a tale, thats why i love the stains, dust, and wear.

It has faded...ever so slightly. I keep the dust and dirt on it, and brush it only once a month if that, actually sponge it with my orange hat sponge, same difference. You've got to wear it and show it some love. All in all its a great hat.

Just got the Henry last night in a 59cm, so pictures coming soon.

I'm really happy with the look, stunning hat and the quality is amazing! The felt is really soft, so much that I'm struggling to keep the bash in.

Just one thing though: I measured my head numerous times and I'm defo a 59cm, that's with the tailor's tape measure pulled firm onto my head (My AB is a 23 1/4" as well and fit perfectly) . I ordered the Henry in 59cm but it's too big and drops down to my ears. I'll need to put foam under the sweat. Anyone else found this or have I got one that's really a 60 but's been miss-labeled with a 59?

My Henry (59cm) was also a tad bigger but after wearing it a while the fit got better and better. If I remember correctly Michael stated the same somewhere above. I always think a bit bigger is better than too small, that way you have room when your hair grows longer and it helps to get a bit of reverse taper

I'm in the process of bashing it at the moment. As you're probably aware, being a Henry owner, the 'supplied' bash didn't hang around for long because the felt is so buttery soft. I've given it some sqirts with water (heeding Fedoras advice that kettle steam will cause the felt to shrink) so that the bash will hold. I've also had to flatten the brim curve at the back of the brim because I thought it swooped too much.

Pretty chuffed with this lid though. I really love the proportions especially the brim widths.

Okay dudes!!

I've been tweaking this using a spray gun and just water, because like I said, the felt is so soft that it wouldn't hold the bash. I was trying to go for a LC kind of a bash, but I like the raiders swoop as well. A hybrid bash.

Looks good Ian! The Henry really is a great hat! It will look better with each day your wear it (and you don´t have to worry about rain or snow) and especially when the bash has settled.

Isn't this a great lid? Although i think the block is a bit round on the top, the felt, ribbon and especially the sweat are phenomenal for a "factory" hat.
