Thanks for the update! can't wait to see these!!Puppetboy wrote:Okay, here's the update: The pattern is final, but after making samples from various fabrics, including cavalry twill, we're making samples from various weights to get the Raiders drape. We're watching various scenes to see how many wrinkles the pants make when the knee is raised, etc.
We've been busy with other projects - custom jackets and xena dresses - you know, paying customers. Next week we'll try another pair and evaluate the results.

Kool, sounds great Todd, do you have price set for the pair of Indy Pants by the way?
PS, well you also offer to choose between having buttons or a zipper feature near the pants crotch?

Thank you for the update Todd. We shall continue to keep you well fed in steak sir.
I'm assuming buttonfly. Getting the weight and drape of the fabric has to be a pain. I wonder if all the pants were exactly 100 percent the same, or if there were like stunt pairs, some wider or thicker material,etc...

Thats what I ment to say, the button fly or the zipper fly.

A zipper on a pair of classy looking cavalry twill trousers... guys are you nuts?
Anyway, "not screen accurate" = "waste of time".

Re: Todd's Pants
I hoping the weight of these new trousers are either SA or thicker, not thinner. I would like to actually wear these and not just put them on to gear up. The old WW2 pinks were very durable, strong twill. This holds with the character.

Re: Todd's Pants
I echo the "heavier" statement. My hope is that they'll be as thick and solid as original pinks. There are plenty of thin pants out there. Let have something that'll hold up to real world adventure!
Re: Todd's Pants
From what I remember, the original trousers were a medium weight, neither light nor too heavy (and cavalry twill CAN be very heavy). Therefore I suppose that Todd will go for something along those lines. He has swatches of Noel Howard's product and his trousers were pretty much the same consistency of the screen used ones.
Afterall we want screen accuracy, not WW2 trousers... (if I may remind)
If there is anything in the Indiana Jones gear that will hold up to real adventures that is the cavalry twill (wether of a medium or a heavy density).

Re: Todd's Pants
I was just curious, has anyone ever bought a pair of WW2 Army Pinks Pants from WPG?
I had bought a pair, but I found out that the length was a little too long. So I had send them back for a refund, next time I think I should by from Todds instead.

Too long? You could have gotten them hemmed for only a few bucks.

Re: Todd's Pants
No one pair of pants can meet the hopes and dreams of everyone. My goal is screen accuracy - color, weight, fiber content, and construction details. If you want something else, there are other vendors who will oblige you. I'm not being flip about it, but it's the truth. I can only offer one pair of pants - that's just the economics of it. I can't offer variations. If you want something different, Magnoli has some great choices, and WPG, Bill's Khakis, and eBay are great places to find military trousers.
Price has not been determined yet and won't be for a while. We're still hammering out the details here. Once the factories get our samples, we'll have firm quotes. We'll wait for the shipment to arrive to tally up our true final cost before setting the price.

Re: Todd's Pants
I think things are being overly simplified. The reason we come here, is to discuss gear. And more often than not, this group splits into two, the fedora bellied sneetches and the sneetches with no fedorars upon thars.
One group is excited to discuss something, the idea of something, the tangible something, or the days of yore something.
The other says stop getting excited and talking about things. Go away and later you can talk about it.
Imagine getting excited that you're buying a speedboat. You join a speedboat forum. You post all that you've learned about speedboats, and what you're looking for in your speedboat. And then the members of the forum tell you to stop talking.
They're just pants. And, they're just shoes...jackets...bags..holsters...whips...and fedoras.
So, pardon the few of us that are interested when a trusted vendor who consistently puts out quality product announces that he's producing another long sought after, accurate, and financially affordable item.

Re: Todd's Pants
Man, go ahead and drool as much as you want about speedboats or pants or what have you. It has nothing to do with the cool kid thing. It has to do with the fact that this was a thread about the material on Todd's pants. Todd has posted like 6 times in the thread, and yet there are how many pages now? Seven pages? Guys keep checking back in here everytime we see a new post, just as excited as the next guy that we can buy the new gear, only to hear someone saying "Jeez, I hope they are lined with gumdrops so that when I sweat, sugar drips down into my Aldens so my sweaty socks will taste like Jolly Ranchers".
Anyway, go ahead and continue to ponder and postulate and dream about what is and what shall never be....or just sit back, content that Todd has done the research and gathered the data he needs to make the right product for his business. I was just joking around with Frosty and lantzn, indyclone and Mountaneer about how ga ga guys have gotten about a as-of-yet fictional pair of pants. If you are going to take offense to that, well....I really can't help you other than to say this isn't the first time we've seen you get WAY to serious about stuff and then get sort of huffy when folks make light of it.
Relax. We all love Indy gear, that's why we're here. Heck, if I didn't care about the pants, I wouldn't be following this thread. Just chill and enjoy the ride, and if someone razzes you about it, chuckle and smile and say "yeah, I know I'm a nut, but aren't we all?"

Yeah I know I'M a nut, but aren't WE all? Interesting, considering the amount of posts I see from people attacking each other. In case you didn't notice, I retracted my last sentence because I was getting a little huffy. I'm just getting pretty sick of how out of wack things get on this board. You want to know when Todd makes an announcement about the pants? Check to see who the last poster was, check the post count...obviously we are all going to wax poetic about this, the same way we would if Peter said he was going to get the pockets right, (Mod edit for inappropriate language) but we had to be patient because he wanted to make sure the lips were big enough.maboot38 wrote:Man, go ahead and drool as much as you want about speedboats or pants or what have you. I read threads where people argue of the seams on the back of a jacket, or so help me god what kind of underwear HF wears.
And if my attitude bugs you, or anyone else, maybe it's you that's taking me too seriously? Nah, couldn't be! I'm going to continue posting MY thoughts and MY opinions and MY feelings on this board, until the Mods kick me out.
Now, back on topic, unless this is going to turn into another arguement thread, and get locked down, and someone has to start a new" I wonder what kind of thread Todd's Short Round Industries Inc is going to use on the crotch seam" thread on here.
As always, tongue planted firmly in cheek, for those who need explaining.

Re: Todd's Pants
Joyce,
I wasn't looking for a fight, nor was I saying stop discussing it. I should probably invest in that sarcasm font I've seen in the news recently. I was going more for one of those johnny come late posters where it's obvious that something is being (and has been for some time) discussed but since I want to jump into the fray I just state the obvious on page 7 or 8 of the thread. Hence "Wait...what? Todd is gonna do pants too?!!? OMG!!!"
Yes, I am excited to see how Todd ends up doing these trousers.
I have purchased many other of his items, some more than one, and I know what he sells is quality, everyday-levels of usage gear. Just because it's taken this dang long for the things to come out probably means that he's aiming for a higher standard in the aspects of the trousers. I hope he does it too.
Besides a set of L.L. Bean trousers, I was lucky enough to find a set of trousers at a vintage shop that are pretty much dead-on for me, so I'm not as on the edge of my seat (forgive the pun) for these. Like I said I use many parts of the gear on a daily basis; the trousers, not so much because I'm not a pleats kind of guy. However, I do understand and empathize with the enthusiasm levels for this new item. Especially if all the bells and whistles are correct.
But come on, this is COW, you do know that even once these pants do make it out, THEN the real fighting between camps will break out for all the aforementioned reasons, i.e. thread count, stitch pattern, button sewing, etc. Being Todd's I doubt you'll get that argument from me at that time. Sorry to have caused any confusion with my post.
I'm going back to the sidelines to wait and keep watching for these to drop on the market.

I, too, would like to see them on the heavier side. I wonder however, if Todd could double his sales if he offered these pants in two varieties? One, SA wool cavalry twill, and the second in machine washable cotton? Heck, Id be likely to buy a couple extra pairs of the cotton ones and maybe dye them different colors. It'd be cool to have some Indy pants in OD green or black. Obviously I could just ask Magnoli to make me a pair, but I'm waiting to win the lottery before I ask him to be my personal tailor:)
