I have three Akubra Federation IV's. Two brown, one bashed Raiders style and one ToD/LC style, and the other Moonstone Grey. I got my first one, the ToD/LC one, back in 2008. I wore it when I went out, to conventions, etc. Eventually I started wearing it to work every day. I beat this hat, and put it thru all kind of temperature and weather extremes.
Eventually I realized that I needed more hats, and so I ordered the other two. I figured as I wear alot of blacks and greys, the moonstone would look nice, plus eventually I'd get a suit and would want something dressy. So that became my "goin out" hat, and my Raiders soon took the place of the old hat and became my everyday hat. And again, I put that hat thru everything and all kinds of torture.
Sadly, the old hat sat in a box, only coming out once last year for a photo shoot, then sitting all by its lonesome in a box. I took it out the other day, because Im trying to break in my ToD jacket and it just seemed appropriate, to put on a different styled hat.
I swear, it was like being with an old friend. The feel of the felt, the warmth it offered my head, all the little things about it that made me enjoy it in the first place, all came out again. I was eating lunch in a Friendly's and I couldn't stop snatching a glance in the mirror.
Amazing how a little thing like a fedora can just feel so right sometimes. Good to see you again, old friend.
Like seeing an old friend.
