My Three SA Raiders whips! The Holy Trinity!!! WITH VIDEO!
Here are my three SA Raiders of the Lost Ark bullwhips!
From Left to Right:
9' Del Carpio; 10' Strain; 10' Paul Nolan
Some of you may remember me making a post about how I was going to get an AB from Paul Nolan through Marc. I did not wind up doing that.
First of all, I had paid Marc for an 8' AB whip. Then, quite coincidentally about 2 months later I met a woman with a 10' Paul Nolan "Indy" whip. She had received it brand new from Paul about 3 months before and said that it was too much whip for her. So, while I'm sure she paid $600 for it, she let me have it for only $400! (By the way, it seems to me that she must have ordered it in Saddle Tan and not Natural Tan, but its possible that it aged that quickly and darkened, but I doubt it! Either way I think it makes for a great ROTLA or TOD whip, depending on the scene, etc).
Now, at this point I had fully intended to still sit back and wait for my other Nolan arrive. I was actually quite excited by the prospect of being able to compare the standard Nolan to the AB, etc. (Here's my previous post where I compared Joe's whip to Bernardo's btw http://indygear.com/cow/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=43183)
But as some of you know, I just got engaged. So . . . Marc was kind enough to return my money (thank you again, Marc. And by the way, she said, "Yes!") I don't know what else to say except that I realized that while Paul's AB whip might well have been the ULTIMATE Raiders SA whip, I just had to look at what I had and say, "These whips are pretty stinkin' awesome. Really, the ONLY whip that could make me happier would be one handled on screen by Ford himself."
Not to mention, I think that the Nolan I have is pretty sweet. So, as far as I'm concerned, I've got what I wanted!
What do you guys think?
DHW
PS
Yes, I know that I don't have a Morgan. But I do have a Jacka INDY IV, so I feel I've got at least one "Screen Used" (sorta, but not really, I mean Ford didn't use MINE obviously) whip. Otherwise, since I understand David doesn't really make the whips anymore, I'm again as happy as I could be with the whips I have from these three fine whipmakers. They are the best in the business as far as I'm concerned. Thank you all, gentlemen!
And here's a clip of me cracking my 9' Del Carpio explaining a move I learned from Anthony De Longis.
Hope you guys like it!

That's a great Indy collection Darren!
Now "This thread is worthless without a video "
There should be such smile, I think.

Wow! All three look really great and top notch SA raiders whips. I would like to own all three makes. I still hold to the view that Bernardo has the slight edge when it comes to that extra special raiders/vintage Morgan look. Especially the handle braid and the look of the turks head knot.

Isn't it funny how three different whips that look very different can all be screen accurate?
It's not even a question of "Which Scene?" it's a question of "Which Shot?" Little Steven sure does love his camera setups!
Beautiful whips, by the way, DHW.
Nice Video, BTW....I need to give that combination a shot once I've emerged from hibernation
All the best!

Oh, guess what? I have a Morgan now, made by David in 2001. It's not a "Raiders" whip, since it was made so recently, and it has, even for David, a very short handle, but at least I have a whip made by the man himself! And I have to say, besides the fact that he made the whips for the first three films, I understand what all the fuss is about: it's an amazing whip! Plus, for the record, as much as I think that Joe and Paul do incredible work, the Del Carpio I believe, is the most akin to the Morgan. Bernardo has made it his life's work recreate David's work, and I think he is doing an amazing job.

Looking great Daren!
I love the "It hurts my arm" comment, many of us share that thought
I notice you one of those trees like I do that just have to try and catch the whip everytime you use it. Excellent job in such a cramped space to work with.
Crack On!

Hey, Allen, thanks! Yeah, that whip doesn't normally hurt my arm, (though it does tire me out quickly) but I literally had not realized that I had pulled a muscle slightly in that arm a couple of days before, and cracking that whip really brought forth the pain. It still hurts, as a matter of fact. I feel like such a whimp!
And yes, cramped space is an issue; the trees mostly get in the way for overhead crack routines, but I can deal with the tree and bushes the rest of the time. I really want to tear up the bushes and other plants in that yard, and just have a nice large lawn to play on. One day . . .
Thanks for checking out the video!

Did you catch what I have, Bob? If so, please don't blame me only! I'm sure a lot of people on here are also partially sick with the same disease, and I think we are all contagious, and all susceptible to infection!
