There are complaints, yet isn't that what the real deal was? Light weight and costumy? He just replicated what was actually on screen. It was a costume piece.

Todd's standard gets some not so flattering comments sometimes as light weight and 'costume', but the Todd's standard I have is very comparable in materials and construction to my Wested ToD's.

Is yours one of the new batch?
I ordered it last week, so I'm assuming it's from the "new batch". I'll get some pics up soon, but I need to go to bed now...and I'm not sleeping in my jacket. ;)

Just wanted to bump this back up to the first page, alot of people got a Todd's since the last post and I hate to see this one die. It's also an interesting look at the different ways the jackets have been broken in and distressed. Someday I'll get pics of mine up lol.

I have a quick question on the Todds standard. I purchased one recently and I absolutely LOVE it. I wear it everywhere. What I have noticed is that the pleats flare out quite severely. Is this normal? The only 'distressing' I have done to it was to wear it out in the rain. If it's not supposed to do this, how can I fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Now that the weather is starting to slowly warm up a bit, I was FINALLY able to wear my Todds out. Wore it to work with my Henry and got a lot of good compliments (most didn't even know it was 'Indy's' jacket, so it looks good in its own right!).
Two of my bosses are closet fanboys, so they were pretty excited to see me in partial-gear.
I'm lovin' my Todds jacket more and more every day - I might be taking some casual pics today so stay tuned.

Here we go - just some casual pics of me wearing my Todds in my street clothes (and my Henry of course!). Full gear pics will come once all the snow melts...

Yeah, it's the standard - but I bought it on Ebay slightly used, the original owner had added the D-rings to the straps (which I really like) and the snap on the storm flap (which I also like).
It really is a pleasure to wear - goes great with street clothes, I love the way it drapes and moves on my body - and yes, it looks outstanding with the Henry!

I agree with Michael! That jacket looks great! My only jacket is a Todd's standard and I really love it. I would like to get another style though at some point when I can afford it. I really like the one in Michael's (TundraRaider) Avatar. I wish I knew what style that His is.. Obviously it's a custom made jacket, but What brand and what type of leather. I need to dig around in the past threads and find out.

GF, the jacket looks great. Todd's jacket is a really good contender for Raiders jackets available to purchase. IMO seeing his jackets on GF and Holt, and Raiderbash, really in my mind the Raiders jacket flow is Tony's offering, then Todd's Custom, then Todd's standard. Those are the top 3 Raiders jackets in my eyes.

If I may...
Michael is wearing a custom from Tony - pretty much the Ferrari of Indy jackets!
I appreciate the compliments - but don't forget to throw some of those compliments at Todd himself. I may be wearing it, but Todd is the guy that made all the magic happen!

I want another one. I bought mine oversized so i could wear more stuff under it for winter, and i gave it a shower treatment. I want another that fit's a little snugger and I won't give it the water treatment and watch it age naturally.

Plus, I want one with the collar lining up and the yoke/sleeve seams not (and thanks guys, because without you I would have forever been perfectly happy with my jacket until you pointed out where it wasn't quite right.....so thanks...and my already hurting wallet thanks you too ](*,)

I believe I got the sleeve length pretty accurate to how they look in the movie. I freeze-framed some shots from Raiders and noticed how the sleeves rest just below his wrists when his arms are at his sides. The pics don't show it as well, but when my arms are straight at my sides, the cuff of the jacket comes to almost mid-hand. That is where I did the folding. Sure, when I move my arms around, the jacket sleeves ride up the hand some - but I think it works for me - I hope to take some more pics soon - thanks for the input.
I don't plan on rolling the sleeves back out because there will be a crease mark which I won't be able to live with (MONK syndrome!).

It also makes a difference if you've got the jacket pulled up and zipped. In Holt's pic you can see that the collar is wide apart and the jacket has slouched down his shoulders. That gives you extra length in the sleeve.

An unzipped jacket is no way to evaluate sleeve length.

in my screen shot you really can see how close Todds jacket is to the original. I mean the way the collar sits around his neck is exactly how it sits on my jacket. the drape and thinness of the leather and the shiny lining.

GF, roll down yout turn back on the cuff, push the sleeves up as high as you can and wear it like that for a long while. You will probably find once you let the sleeves fall to nornmal the unrolled cuff actually sits higher.

And something I learned while trying to get the upper arm creases on my TOD jacket, and have also used on my Todd's, is to wet the sleeves and take the jacket off, with the sleeves all scrunched up, then put something over it to push down on the sleeves so they get those creases set in. If you have a pair of high boots you could also put the sleeves over the boot tops to scrunch them.

After letting it naturally distress for about seven months I was going to start really trying to make it look like a movie jacket, but my recent back pain means Im just kind of lying around looking at the pc:(.

I'll see what I can do. At this point I'm most worried about the creases. Could this be remedied by the wetting method? I ask because I don't have any leather dressing at the moment so I would want to try a way without it first.
A lot has to do with how the jacket fits accross my back and shoulders. Depending on how my posture is, the sleeves actually come down to where they are supposed to (which is how I rolled them up in the first place). I find that straightenting myself out and rolling my shoulders to pull the jacket up a little higher is what makes the sleeves look the length they do in the pictures.
If there is a sure-fire way to rid the sleeves of the creases I will give it a go - but if not, I would rather them stay the way they are - still looks pretty darn good!
Thanks for the feedback everyone. It's much appreciated.

You haven't had it that long, how bad could the creases be? As the sleeves themselves wrinkle up any at the wrist will just blend in anyway.

I just got done rolling them down.
The sleeves now hit my knuckles exactly like in the screen grabs Holt posted.
First off, there is a pretty bad crease but I will see what I can do to blend it in. I think the softness of the leather will work to my advantage here and hopefully the leather will relax some with a little work.
Second, since I buffed out most of the shine with the sandpaper, the extended sleeves now are visibly different from the rest of the sleeve - easy fix as I will just sand down the newly exposed sleeve BUT I must be carefull NOT to sand over the creases as they will certainly pick up the sanding and make the creased area stand out even more.
I will try and get some new pics posted soon...I just got my new SOC strap from Wade today (outstanding by the way) so I can finally get some new pics in 'full' gear (I still don't have the weapons belt, holster, whip or gun ](*,)
Many thanks to Holt and all you guys for your possitive and informative feedback. You guys must be made of stone cuz you ROCK!

sure thing..

before you sand the end part of the cuff is to soak the sleeve and lay it under some heavy books or something to dry flat. that will get most of the crease out.

Also all leather jacket's sleeves shrink up a little in time, due to them taking on the shape of your arms, so you got that to look forward to as well:)

Does it matter if I use warm or cold water?
I will try this method hopefully tonight and see where it takes me. I will also take some 'before' and 'after' pics to illustrate where its at.

Re: Todd's Jacket Owner's Thread

oooh, now this I have experience with. I don't know about the others, but when I first got it I kept showering it with cold water, and that worked fine. One time I used hot water, put it on, and slept in it, and when it dried some of it REALLY dried. I had depleted some of the natural oils in the jacket. Through use of some creme and some Pecard's I got it back somewhat, but nowhere near as soft as it was before I did it.

So I vote cold water, but others may have pointers I overlooked on hot water.

As a test, I held one of the sleeve cuffs under cold running water for a minitue or two, gently rubbing the crease out smooth. While still wet, it appeared to have made a little difference but I can't tell for sure yet. I have the sleeve sandwiched between two foamcoare boards now with a 10lb weight on top.
If I still see some crease (but a noticeable difference) I will give it another bath.

Here we go so far...
You will see one sleeve was soaked and smoothed out while the other is still creased. The camera flash makes the wet sleeve look so much more brown - not sure if this is because of the gentle rubbing I did or just how it looks when it is moist. The sleeves don't look this brown in person - only noticeable in the photographs.
I have since soaked the other sleeve and both look pretty good now. You really can't tell there is a crease there unless you are really looking for it (I know its there, so I notice it)
I also accidently splashed some water on the chest area. I noticed that once it dried up a little, it left a splash mark ](*,)
What's THAT all about? I wetted a towel with cold water and smoothed it out a bit...but darnet!!
The jacket is hanging up now - not sure how long it will take to dry but they still feel pretty damp. I'm curious to see what wetting the leather will do to its finish and to the weathering I initially gave it.
Input??

the reason why it left a splash mark is because you buffed the leather with sandpaper. you took away the protective sealer. so now the lambskin is more naked. you could compare it to a naked novapella skin.

Got home from work to day and the sleeves had finally dried. Doesn't look like the washing in cold water affected the color at all, but it did make the sleeves a little dry and stiff. I scrunched and rubbed them with my hands and they are a little better. They will have to do for now until I can order some pecards - unless someone here can tell me what stores sell it?
They also shrank JUST ENOUGH so the cuff hits right at my thumb kunckle when my hands are at the sides. I will have to distress the extended and washed areas so that it matches the rest of the jacket, but it really came out quite nice and I am very pleased with the overall appearence of my jacket - Raiders all the way!
I'm going to wait to take some pictures since I am going to Florida the beginning of next month. I'm also having my friend shoot a video while we are down there to document my plan to walk in the park in my gear!

To my knowledge you can only get pecards from their website. Glad you are happy about the jacket! It just gets better as it breaks in naturally. Mine is broken in naturally, and now thanks to your thread I want to make it look more movie like. Thanks for sharing your photos!

Yes the Todd Coyle standard jacket is indeed a tough leather even though it a very thin lamb. I have had a few stitching issues with it. Repaired a pocket flap, repaired the back anchor stitching to the right strap, it has a small rip in the seam lining, and a small tear in the leather which is hidden by the right cargo pocket. However the leather has been almost too durable.
I have had the jacket for almost two years and the leather just wont "break in" with regular wear, wear in the rain, or balling it up and throwing it in a corner.
I finally took a shower in it last weekend, towel dried the jacket, then wore it for a couple of hours wet, threw it in the dryer on the air only no heat setting for 45 minutes, wore it for another couple hours and then back into the dryer on the lowest heat setting our dryer has for 30 minutes. I put the jacket back on and wore it to bed still damp. I had to sleep in my sons bed becuase of this.
The next morning the jacket finally looked "lived" in but it was dry. So it recieved it's first thin coat of Pecards on Sunday night and I swear the jacket is almost back to looking brand new again as of today. All pics are post shower, sleeping in while damp, and pecard treatment. Size is an XL on a 5' 10", 165 lbs. average male body.

Looks like the strap was folded over on itself under the buckle's rearmost outer rim, with the excess pushed back through towards the jacket's front. (The second picture is my source.)

I toyed with that configuration myself, just so one would be able to see the entire buckle. Then I decided I liked it as I did it more (looping it over the buckle's rear rim and back to the front) because it was kind of "locked" in that manner.
