What is the best type of leather?

What is the best type of leather?
What is the best type of leather if you live in a tropical country like me? I want an Indy leather jacket, but I'm sure I'd die of heat-stroke or something like that wearing it here in the Philippines.
So what kind of leather isn't too hot?

Re: What is the best type of leather?
What leather seems ot be most commonly used for jackets there?
Lamb? Goat?
Lamb? Goat?
Re: What is the best type of leather?
Which of the two is thinner? ...or at least which one allows the wearer's skin to breathe?
Re: What is the best type of leather?
Oh, to answer your question... I have no idea since the only leather jackets I see here are the motorcycle jackets which are for protection if the rider falls... And those are pretty thick.
Re: What is the best type of leather?
Lamb is the leather used most in warm areas. There is no answer about thickness. Leather is cut to different thicknesses. I have cow that is thinner than lamb. It is still slightly heavier. I have lamb thicker than goat. The lamb is lighter. Tanning processes also make a differnence to weight, etc.

todd's lamsbkin of the rack. the thinnest skin I have in a jacket.
Re: What is the best type of leather?
I'm gonna go to a mountain region this Feb where it's really cold. They have a lot of surplus stores there that sell leather jackets. Who knows? I might find an Indy jacket there... I did see a lot of bomber jackets there before.
Problem is, I'll need to live there if I want to be able to wear the jacket regularly. Hehehe.

This morning when I went out it was a balmy -7 degrees Fahrenheit here. With all due respect, what qualifies as "really cold" in the Philippines? I really am curious.

I wouldn't really know the temperature... But in the area I'm gonna be vacationing in, it gets pretty cold especially at night. I remember going on a heavy drinking session and we decided to walk home because we were all quite buzzed from the beer. It was so cold that every time we talked, mist came out of our mouths. Halfway to our destination, all the buzz from the drinking was gone - we all became sober again! And the walk was less than a kilometer.Long John Tinfoil wrote:This morning when I went out it was a balmy -7 degrees Fahrenheit here. But that's just a tiny region in our country. And that kind of weather is only seen in the mountain regions and not where I really live for the rest of the year.

Thanx. My guess is that lamb should be OK for you. My Todd's std. seems similar in warmth, but lighter than, a denim jacket (Levi's is where all my experience is with that.) A breathable cotton lining may be a good idea too.

I wonder if it's the same as my brown denim jacket... My jacket is ok for watching movies in theaters where they have the AC cranked up, but unbearable to wear outdoors - unless of course it rains...
Re: What is the best type of leather?
Any leather will be warmer than a denim jacket. Why not relocate to another country so you can wear leather with impunity...

...Just not Australia, or at least not right now, right CM? It's been very, very hot in the State CM and I are in.

There is the denim Indy jacket from Wested if leather just won't work.
