Ordering a Henry-process?

Post by Alathea_Squared »

On John's site there is the 'order form', but it does not have payment information stored. There is also a PP email address. Do we send the order form first, wait for confirmation, then send the PP Payment, or am I missing something? With Christmas around the corner I really want to get this done!

Something else I noticed as well: On John's website the "Email me for info" email hyperlink on the Order Form is not the full address. If you click it, or look at the source code behind it, it goes to "nfo@Penmanhats...." instead of "Info". The other links look correct, however.

Hmm, I believe John just left on his Christmas vacation, so I think you're out of luck.

But, the order form sends the order to John. You send the paypal to sales@penmanhats.com.

If you're really in need, AB Europe can still dispatch one to you in time, but you'd have to contact Marc or Stefan.

Darn-that exchange rate is going to kill me-im in the US.

*sigh*

There is always next week. I missed one on Ebay from a forumite by 1.00. Did he have something on his site that I missed RE vacation, or was it 'forum collective' knowledge?

John posted in vendor announcements last week that he was going on vacation.

The order process is email or order placement form first, wait for confirmation or phone call then arrange payment.

John was out of the Henry in the size I wanted (57), but said he was expecting more in January. I sent him my payment now to lock in the $250 price. He called and left me a message confirming just before he left for vacation.

It might not be that bad actually, as AB is offering a Christmas sale: http://indygear.com/cow/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=44331

I just overnited my money order to John. I didn't realize he was out on vacation.

Paypal wouldn't let me send money to John!!!! Which is idiotic since I just did so a week ago!

Hey everyone,

Sorry to hear all the troubles. I'm near Oakland California right now. Driving to Carmel for the night. If the order form is filled out and payment sent. I will honor the holiday price. I'll be back by the new year and look into the paypal matter.

OK,

I just got "the call" from John and my Henry will be on its way.

I'll say that I have a man-crush on John because of his excellent customer service skills.

I do customer service for a living and I wish I had 10 John Penmans working for me.

Photos forthcoming of the Henry.

The call as well. He's such a great guy to talk to, and he was styling the hat while on the phone with me.....AND sent me a picture at the same time! Even while talking on the phone he was still engaged in every way. We talked measurements (he says the Henry's run a tad big, so my 58 with a high and tight shouldn't be an issue if i'm between haircuts, for example)

He also said I could mention that the Greys will be coming very soon......... :H:

Oh, yes, the piece de resistance......

I can't wait to get my Henry!! It's my first Indy hat so I don't have anything else to compare it to (in hand anyway).
I am really crossing my fingures that John can accomidate my request to ship the hat with the Raiders bash WITH turn. I'm sure I could do it myself, but there is that chance of error - and besides, nothing like having a hat bashed by a master!
My head size is 22" (what does that make my hat size anyway?). John tells me that doing the 'turn' for me requires the hat to be on someones head so he can get the turn accurate....so I'm hoping he knows someone who can stop by his shope and 'stunt double' for me to make this happen.
In any case, lets see more pics of your Henrys! It's the only thing keeping my anticipation at bay!! ](*,) \:D/

I can bash a hat without a human head and still get a turn. What I can't do is be 100% accurate with that ONE persons head. everyones head is different from the next. If I had you in front of me I could nail it. I can only guess on the amount to turn the hat before bashing it. I may only need a 1/8 of an inch to get the right amount of turn and i might need to turn your a 1/2 inch. I have seen people needing to turn it a whole lot more to get the turn.

Would it help if I sent you photos of my head? I'm no expert, so excuse my ignorance if I come across that way, my apologies.
If you had a pic of my head - front shot, along with my head measurements, is it possible to get more accurate with the turn. Heck, if you do a good job for me I might throw in an old Rocketeer comic book I have... :TOH:

Photo's wont help at all. Person in front of me is the best way. 2nd would be you bashing the hat yourself with my help or me doing it.

Is the shipping box smaller or less heavy than a Penman box?

I can't wait to see the future developments we talked about today if they come to fruition. That would be really cool!

Someone told me that when you order three or more hand made beaver hats from John, he personally breaks into Ford's house, tranqeulizes him and then ships him to your house in a box.
I don't think any human rights activists should get too upset though. John includes some power bars and bottled water for Mr. Ford during the shipping process.

Funny....Actually, since im a self employed IT guy on the side, I can appreciate where John's economics come from, regarding time and materials. Do I give this cable away? How much stock/parts do I keep on hand? Do I support after the sale and to what point? Deskside, housecalls, phonecalls, email only? If his hatbox for his customs costs X to break him even plus a little then he can't legitimately sell it with a hat that isn't his. It dilutes his brand and costs him money. It would be cool if He and Steve and X could get together and come up with a solution for the boxing/reselling of the non-custom line that had flair and style, and they probably are at some point. Just be patient, I guess. It will work itself out.

You can always order a Penman bengaline hat box at the same time as your Henry, it costs $45, which puts you back at the original pre-sale Henry price of about $300. Plus you only pay shipping once. :TOH:

I just re-read this thread. There is information on how to pay but for some reason people miss that like they miss where to put thier address if they live out of the US. I think sone are rushing though that page. I will have to re-think that bit of info.

I don't know John, its pretty straight forward on your order form under "Shipping" it lists all the domestic shipping costs, and then just below it says:

"Shipping prices out side of the USA please contact me.
at info@penmanhats.com or by phone 971-246-1832

Pay by check or money order, please send to

the Penman hat Co.
1085 NE Creeksedge drive
Hillsboro, Oregon 97124

pay by paypal, please use

When paying by paypal please add 3% to the total cost.

sales@penmanhats.com"

That's prety clear-maybe color code the out of US payment info or something on the form. The Hat Box dilemma probably comes from people just expecting a branded hat box. They see it listed on your form and assume its an extra, or a replacement. Some language that the boxes are optional at this point would probably do it, until you work out actual boxing at whatever price point is comfortable for you. My biggest question when I ordered was about the 'send order form'/'then send separate paypal payment' model. Is there a way, as a paypal vendor, to tie a button to your website's orderform so its all in one place?
