Very nice, Geert! Merry Christmas!
Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues...
Thanks guys! I am really pleased with it And I love the colour! The first thing my dad said when I showed him my hat was: "I thought you were getting a grey hat." But when I walked out of the door he said: " Well I'll be darned. It is grey!" That's what I had been saying to him the entire time, but I guess it was just a matter of:" "
And don't you just love those hat boxes he uses? I do!
Regards, Geert

I'll have my Washington suit next month. As soon as I have it I'll post a good picture! But for the matching hat I only own the Hero Raiders, not the Seaplane. I think I could match the suit well with the CS travel anyway.DarenHenryW wrote:Hey, Steerpike, any pics of you wearing your Magnoli Washington suit and tie?

Recieved a steel grey Penman as a gift over the break. This baby is beautiful. Makes it Penman #4. I'll try to snap a few shots of it today to post up here.

Thanks, Fox! I think John may know me entirely too well because I had no input in this, again it was a gift, and I love this hat. It has a 5 3/4'' crown (You think the Raiders hat was tall? Try this baby on!) and a 2 3/4'' brim, if I remember correctly. The bow work is beautiful. I should be able to snap a pic off today. I'll post as soon as possible.

Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues...
Its not quite that tall, Scott. But, uncreased, it was daunting. I put a six point top crease and very soft side creases in it, almost like the side dents on the suspension bridge hat in Temply of Doom. I think these specs just work. It doesn't look wonky or anything like that. The only thing that would make this hat better is some 2'' ribbon but then you wouldn't be able to pull off the intricate bow work that has been done here. It would be too flamboyant with 2'' ribbon. I wouldn't change a thing about this hat.

I'll need to call in the official hat experts in on this one...please define 'wonky'?

From the urban dictionary...........
Wonky.
weird, whacked out, messed up, not working for no definable reason.

Maybe one day I can share in the joy of showing off a brand new Penman - when I get my Henry, could I still post pics here - I mean, it comes from John and will be bashed by him, that counts for something right??

Well, sports fans and fedora lovers alike, it is time to fly the "friendly skies" and head back to Jordan to attend the dig, once again. Time gets away from you! I'll be out for a few weeks and would ask you guys to 'man the store'. This will be round two for my Penman, and I don't think I'll put it through quite the abuse that was apparent last year. She's become an old friend, and have to take care this time around. Henry or custom, as always, 'post 'em up!"

Wishing you safe travels, Tex.
I realize you're probably already on route as I write this... but I'll thought I should say it.
Until you get back I'm sure we'll all miss the your occasional comments here (I think it's safe to say that that we've come to rely on these from you... after all, you're this Threads original Founder!)

I live in the South of France, so it's quite exceptional to have that much snow...
So I went for a little walk with my Penman Last Crusade on my head to keep me warm
edit: it's getting worse over here

Hey John, only you could give the answermcmanm wrote:Oak,
Was wondering if you remember what block you used for Steerpike's hat. Looks more like a CS Hero than a CS Train Traveler to me. I sent my CS Grey to be reblocked on the Hero block and was wondering if it was the same.

Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues...
Steerpike,
Just a background, I saw a hat that Oak made last year that was a Grey CS with Hero brim/crown specifications. I already had a Hero CS from Oak and asked him to make me one that I received it in April 08. However, there was jut something about it that didn't feel right. It just didn't have the great fit my Hero CS had. After talking to Oak, we both came to the conclusion that there was a miscommunication. My hat had the Hero crown/brim specs, but was blocked on the Train Traverler block. Oak was great about taking the hat back and reblocking it on the Hero CS block at no charge . I sent it to be reblocked in Oct. As luck would have it, my hat was next on the block when it broke . When I get the hat back, I will post pics and we will see if they match up.

Fine, so (and I apologize for my ignorance) the blocks of Hero and Travel are different, right? I thought they were very similar, or just the same

To.... Many........ Hats.......... Can't .............. remember........... every..................... Head..................... Hurts...............
I posted somewhere, I can't remember. Could be my Penman hat co. announcement thread. I have 5 block sets in the works. I will have a new/improved Raiders block. A new set of CS blocks ( some broke during a couple of selves falling) 2 non Indy block sets. I have used a couple of different blocks for the travel CS hat. I don't have " the CS block" only Steve and Marc has that. I don't have that vintage block that Steve used for the hat. I use something where I think it looks close and then do the rest in the creasing.

A gentleman complimented my Penman at the store tonight and said he'd never seen such a nice 30's hat and where did I get such a thing? I wrote the Penman URL for him, so John may have another customer.

Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues...
Ok, here it is, sorry about the poor lighting...I've got a really cheapo digital camera. I've got to get some shots of it on my head, but John did a great job on the height and brim width for me.
I asked John to make me a hat that was in the style of the Public Enemies hat. I didn't want a 100% dead on replica, but something similar. So, this is it! Black, rabbit fur, with this great vintage maroon/wine ribbon. And then some comparison shots next to my Fed IV, so you can get an idea of the relative size.

Wow that looks real sharp! I can't wait to see that thing on your noggin'!
I really like that ribbon on the black felt... even though I absolutely LOVE my black Penman... I wonder what it would look like with that maroon/wine ribbon on it!
Congrats on your Penman!
