Tennis Balls for Dents

Post by darthbish »

I like deep dents, and just had a random idea..
Placing a tennis ball on the inside of the hat, steam it and push out.
The theory being that this would stretch and cause a bulge that when cooled and pushed in, would make a deeper dent.

Thoughts??

interesting idea. though you should always be cautious when introducing steam to the sides of your hat. personally i would avoid doing this as the amount of steam needed could cause taper on the hat. especially on thinner rabbit felt. good luck should you try it. i'd be interested in seeing pictures of the result.

Interesting idea. I took a ladle and some distilled water to round out the dents in my Penman Temple (to get that "just punched out the guard look". In that particular hat, there dents were much more round rather than a triagular shape. John was the first to notice it and I used the ladle to get the effect.
