Wearing on of my jackets unzipped, I pulled one side snug around me, then lapped the other side over to determine how much larger than my chest size it was.
That particular jacket had about 5 or 6 inches of overlap, which would be a lot for a motorcycle jacket, but perhaps not so much for an Indy jacket, considering the range of motion desired, and possibly layering other garments, artifact bag, bullwhip and gunbelt under it.
How much can you overlap your best fitting jacket?
Or, how much larger than your chest size is your jacket?
How much larger than your chest size is your favorite jacket

ahem... ......how can you follow that?.....I'm going to go eat some protein now just to feel better...

My favorite jacket: Size 40 Wested Lamb, 7 inches of overlap
I'm a size 38, but I ordered this one a size up to have some extra room. It is the most comfortable jacket I own.
My other Wested: Size 38 Goat, 4.5 inches of overlap
This one is noticeably a snugger fit all around, but is still pretty roomy right under the arms. It is not as comfortable as the lamb.
I think with a leather jacket, the fit has to be spot on, without much room under the arms for there to be proper articulation. Otherwise, if there is some room, say 4 or 5 inches, your arms get snagged up a bit and the sleeves ride up. If there is even more room, though, it becomes far more forgiving and increases your freedom of movement. Can anyone back me up on this? Either completely form fitting or very loose will allow for movement, but somewhere in between is fairly uncomfortable?
