Penman Hat Co. does it again

Post by beaverlid »

I received my first Penman hat from John yesterday. I must say first and foremost "WOW"!!! After receiving my AB CS a month ago I didn't think I could be shocked again. My AB is the most beautiful hat and it is flawless in every regard. When you experience the very best in quality you think that everything else is going to be old hat. Well I was shocked again. John, you told me on the phone that this hat was a beauty and you were 100% correct sir. Since I already had a brown indy from AB, I wanted to try something a little different. My AB is my everyday hat and it is doubtful anything will change that. I have read and read reviews on Penman Hat's and all praise John's work. So I knew I was getting something special, so I wanted him to make me a different hat that I could wear on different occasions.

I changed my mind many times over the course of the waiting period, which in my opinion can be a blessing because if I didn't have to wait I would not have been able to change my mind to eventually get the masterpiece before me. Anyway, after a lengthy coversation with John I decided to try a grey travelers hat in the Last Crusade style. John agreed and upheld his end of the bargain beautifully.

The pounce job is perfect. This is something I am very picky about because my first beaver fedora was over priced and had a poor pounce job. After seeing Steve's work on the AB and knowing what a good pounce job looks like I want nothing but that quality on all of my hats. John exceeded my expectations in that area.

The ribbon was wonderfully done and the bash is everything I expected from a LC bash. The one item I truly love on this hat that stands above all my fedor'a is the sweat band John used. I don't know how to describe it. It just feels different than the rest of my fedora's. It fits my head perfectly. THe size I sent john was created in this hat perfectly.

I have every intention of being a repeat customer. I will be getting a brown LC next time. John thank you sir for this wonderful fedora you made for me. Here are a few pictures to let you see John's craftmanship.

Beautiful. I hadn't seen a grey hat creased like the LC hat. I like it. Looks good on you too. Wear it in good health.

It is the fedora we should have seen on the Venice pier in my opinion. Thanks for the compliment. It is my 10 year old son's birthday today. I think I will get gussied up and wear my new Penman on the town tonight for our dinner and a movie. :TOH:

I agree. I think Indy should have been wearing his grey travel hat. He used it when he was dressed up and he certainly was when he landed in Venice. I can uncerstand him taking his favorite brown hat to Marshall as he was simply going to work. It looked pretty clean so he probably hadn't gone on any adventures since it's last reblock. It would work in that scenario. But travel was something people used to dress up for. I don't see why he wouldn't have put on his grey hat for that. Great take on what SHOULD have been in the movie.

Great looking hat. I should be getting my CS grey back this week. Had John block it on the Hero block. Ill post pics. Not to stray off topic, but maybe GL will just change the color of the Venice hat when the bluray edition comes out. :?

Beautiful hat!

You know, I never was interested in a gray fedora until all these threads about them popped up and took me by surprise... :BD:

I was gonna shout "blasphemy" on that one, but remembered that they changed Darth Vadar's face on the star wars VI dvd, so who knows... :?
