I went for a short two mile hike today in the rain. It wasn't a frong strangler or anything like that. My Ab did not soak thru anywhere except at the very front of the brim where i had my head down looking where i was going & all the droplets collected & fell off. That only goes about 3/16 of an inch back. When I got home, I popped all the creases out as best I could & I put a stretcher inside the sweat band to prevent skrinkage & maintain size, not so tight it will size it up or anything.
Should I or could I do anything else?
Thanx!!!
Charlie

Nope. My AB is the hat I choose specifically in frog stranglers, so your hat should be fine. In fact, when I get mine wet, I don't even pop out the creases. I'll either rest it on the crown or let it hang over he edge of a desk or table to dry. I don't baby it or do anything fancy. You will find, though, that after a rain is the best time to tweak the brim if you want, since it's already damp.

It's going to take a lot more than rain to hurt that baby! I love getting mine wet. I get to adjust the bash, and even if you leave it alone, the hat will gain character as a result.
As for the stretcher, you did the right thing. The only time you shouldn't put a stretcher on a wet hat is if the sweatband itself is saturated. then, it's good to fold the sweatband out and let it air dry at least most of the way before putting the stretcher in. If you don't do that, though, it's still not a terrible sin.

but do not take the cup beyond the sweatband... for that is the limit of it's power.

Aw heck, you'll be fine. I've worn my AB in the remnants of Hurricane Ike, (11" of rain in 2 days), not to mention three years worth of N. Indiana Snowstorms without any ill effects,(yeah, I blow snow wearing a lamb Wested and my AB). If it's really wet, I just pop out the creases and let it dry upside down like Steve reccomends. If it's just a little damp, I let it dry, as is, on a Todd's hat stand.

I always have my hat upside down when not on my head and have never popped out the creases because of a wet hat or used a stretcher. There are stains on the liner from soaking through from outside and inside and no tapering or other damage visible to me yet.

Re: Did i hurt my Adventurbilt
Reading this gives me some comfort. When I recieved my adventurebilt, I looked at it and thought "will this really stand up against all they say it will?" It's a beautiful hat, but it feels so thin and light.
Thanks for easing my mind guys.
