If the final is as good or better than that first photo, this is very very tempting.
Maybe Canadians can get them in as 'wall decorations' I've heard of other 'replica' guns getting through that way.

Re: Anyone interested in a PFC Bapty revolver?
Okay, as promised, here are some pictures of what they sent me.
I was surprised that they sent me a matte finish, but I'm requesting that they make these in the plated blue finish.
It works great! Double action, single action, cylinder latch, ejector, ejector rod catch, lanyard ring. The caps are loud (like a firecracker) and you do get sparks and smoke. And of course, the great smell of gunpowder. The caps fit inside the cartridges (the metal bullet unscrews). Here are more pictures:

Negotiations are still ongoing. No eta. I welcome your comments.

Looks amazing! Matte finish or no.
Re: Anyone interested in a PFC Bapty revolver?
Very nice.
So will the orange end be able to be removed?

Re: Anyone interested in a PFC Bapty revolver?
It looks really good and I love the idea of the ultimate cap gun (as opposed to an airsoft, there's plenty of those around). The plated finish really would put it over the top though.

Short of owning a real M1917, that is the ultimate Indiana Jones gun.

Looks nice, the only thing I will mentions is echoing what you said about the matte finish. It wouldn't be so bad except that to me it looks odd when the brown handle is shinier than the rest of the gun, that kind of accentuates the matte finish being rather out of place.

Hey Todd,
Can we see the business end? Does it look like this:
Excepting some orange paint, of course.

That is something I am wondering also, maybe a paint job over the orange?? It does not look like a orange cap though it looks painted on. Still a very nice looking gun. How much you think you may sell these for?

Re: Anyone interested in a PFC Bapty revolver?
It is illegal to remove the orange paint. The feds will raid your house and confiscate your weapon. They'll force you, at gun point, to stomp it to pieces. Crying and pleading will not move them. And if you don't stomp hard enough, they'll start shooting at your feet and tell you to dance. I don't want that for anyone here.
BTW, the orange on this gun was quickly hand painted for this sample. The production models have a nice spray finish.
And now let's talk about a completely different subject - home repair. How many of you have plastic front doors with ugly orange paint on them? When I need to restore my painted plastic front door, a good way to remove the paint without damaging the plastic is with an orange-based paint remover, like the kind you can find at your local hardware store. An alternative is "Easy-Off" oven cleaner. That's an old plastic model kit builder's trick. Also, brake fluid is known to attack paint, but not plastic parts. So using one of these methods, I can strip the paint from my front door without damage, and prepare it for repainting. I think I saw Bob Villa do this.
UPDATE: DON'T use Citri-Strip. It'll turn ABS to mush. I just found that out the hard way.
But, if I have company coming over, AND MY FRONT DOOR WILL BE EXPOSED TO PUBLIC SCRUTINY, I cover my front door with orange tape so no one calls the cops on me and I'm shot dead. As you know, death is fatal.

Re: Anyone interested in a PFC Bapty revolver?
Keep in mind that removing the orange paint from your "front doors" is done at YOUR OWN RISK. IndyGear, Club Obi Wan, or any of its staff are not liable from any actions which may arise should you choose to do so. It's all your own liability. It's just worth mentioning. And with the question asked and answered, there is no need to expound on that subject any further.
Now, back to how nice this gun looks.

I'd like to see a picture of the Barrel front as well. Will there also be dummy bullets available that look exactly like the live rounds? It's very cool looking, I'm very excited about it.

Wow, that looks really great! The only thing I would change is to darken the grips. As far as the orange paint, well it has to be shipped out like that. People can do what they will once they have it. Other then that, it really is cool. You could probably even offer a distressed model. I'm sure that would go over big!
Well done!

Any update on the Bapty, Todd? I notice one of these is up on eBay; current bid is $280.00.

yeah...that's too bad. Todd told me like a year ago he was in development with Tanaka to do that gun. I can't help but think how mad that would make me, that some guy there in Japan is trying to beat him to market with the fruit of his personal year long + endeavor.
Thankfully Todd's price is better But I think without the copyright infringements (how can the japanese use HF's likeness (lucasfilm property?) and the S&W marks?).

Re: Anyone interested in a PFC Bapty revolver?
Yes, I saw that on Ebay. If you want it for $280, go for it. These will be available from vendors worldwide. The USA version will only be available from me. My box does not have Harrison Ford on the cover.
Mine will be here in March. I'm waiting for the plated blued finish. The ones available now are dull plastic. Also, I will be selling them more in the $199 range, like my other Tanaka guns. Final price will be determined after they arrive and all is "said and done".
I hope mine will be coming with the red cap instead of the painted muzzle. I could ask, but I think I need to give them a break for a while.
My main concern is getting caps. I've read that they're only made by one place in Japan (Kaneko, Inc) and it's prohibited for Japan to export explosives. I hope you guys won't have to order them from the UK. Unique Canes sells them, but they only have access to small quantities (you don't have to think to hard to figure out why). I've been contacting every Chinese fireworks and toy cap company about having them made, but not having much luck. There is one company that is considering it. Most companies will not sell less than a 40' container load (think semi-truck). There is also a lot of confusion about the US classification of these caps as fireworks or not, California classification of these caps, required licenses for import, states they can be shipped to, etc. The other consideration is whether I can gather enough retailer who would like to split a semi load. They could get them cheaper than what they are paying to smuggle them out of Japan. We'll see. If anyone can help...
See what I go through?

Re: Anyone interested in a PFC Bapty revolver?
I'm with you on that one. The WG Army Model is one of the rarest and most sought after guns right now. They cost in the range of $2K - $6K. I'd be ALL over that offering if you released it. The WG was the only gun Ford carried in Indy 4 and will probably be the same in the next one.Tundrarider wrote:Todd, that is a beautiful piece. Great job on creating it.
If I didn't already have so many Indy guns, I would certainly commit to this one.
On a side note, I can't help but think that a Webley WG with the birds head grips made by this company would be a hot seller. Of course, I'm biased, as I think the WG is the ultimate Indy gun!
Thanks for posting and asking!
Michael
Off topic I just watched Connery yield one in the movie, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Re: Anyone interested in a PFC Bapty revolver?
I too saw the one on evilbay, but wasn't the ejector rod (took me 5 minutes of thinking to remember what it was called, old age. ) underneith completly shrouded, not open like the real 1917, more like a modern s&W. Or was just a poor shot.
Looking foward to the progress on this, I have a 1917, but I don't like to display it, but this I probably would.

I would be happy with the way it looks in the pictures above. Of course a blued finish and red cap would be preferable.

Re: Anyone interested in a PFC Bapty revolver?
Hi,
I casually found one of these revolvers from a japanese retailer some months ago... since I had no notice of them I came here to do a search in order to see if this had been discussed before and found not only that, I see that Todd himself it has been the man who convinced Tanaka to make the gun!
I only can say the quality of the model gun is simply amazing and the barrel detail care echoing the Bapty is one of the best features you can find (along with the .455 caliber which shows that spectacular muzzle you see in the Cairo sequence) Also the S&W patents inscription running at the upper side of the barrel partially hidden by the 'refurbished' front sight due the cut it's a hot spot! My only 'complaint' it's about the frame, an older N-Frame would have been great... although they also paid attention to the screw at the front of the trigger guard. So that's a minor complaint.
Can't wait to see it in the blued version anyway, I'm sure that will look even better.
Some pics of mine:
I put a pair of real S&W grips I had. They look nicer than the plastic ones.
Saludos!

Re: Anyone interested in a PFC Bapty revolver?
Boy those look great!! Especially with the real wood grips. Of course for the price of a Tanaka your roughly already half way there for a real Brazilian contract 1917. One that you could feel comfortable about converting. However, these would make great guns for cons and events.

Here it is:
They're up for sale now:
http://www.toddscostumes.com/cgi/commer ... key=353500
The price is $219.95 and includes the gun, 6 brass and aluminum cartridges (that hold the caps) and a loading/unloading stick. As with all Tanaka's products, this one's a beaut. I'll have more pictures in a few days.

I have the caps. If you click on "accessories" in the main menu you will find them, or on the "related items" tab on the product page.
Sorry to say, these didn't come with caps. They are VERY hard to get out of Japan. I emphasize "VERY".
