Popper cord source?

I had a chance to spot some good mason's cord for poppers at Home Depot and other hardware stores locally, but most of the hardware store colors were a little too offensive for my taste. Where can I find some black nylon cord for the making of poppers?

If you have a place that does furniture reupholstery, try them. The thread is excellant for poppers.
They usually have it buy the 1000 foot spools.
I have found that most are more then happy to cut you 10-20 feet worth with no problem.

I'm getting ready to buy a spool or two to make my own crackers. Does anyone have any experience with other sizes of nylon other than 138 or experience with Polypropylene Thread? And are there different sizes of the polypro thread? If so, which is the best for crackers? And why?

Basically the rule I use is:

Thick polypro = Heavier cracker
Thin Polypro = lighter cracker
Thin polypro + an extra loop or two = Heavier cracker
Heavy Polypro - 1/2 (split lenthwise down the middle) = lighter cracker

Personally I think the stuff Murphy sells is too heavy, I used to get his and split in half to get a lighter cracker. However it's a lot of work to split the polypro and fortunately for me my local hardware store sells a lighter polypro cord, so I use that now.

Pretty much you can adjust any weight of polypro to get what size cracker you want, you just might have to split it in half or add extra loops...or possibly both.

With nylon you really can't split in in half easily, but 138 nylon is thin enough you really shouldn't need to split it...if you want thinner use less loops and heavier use more.

At the end of the day I use what I can get (or end up with if ordering online) and make it work.

I do find the hot pink and bright neon green mason's cord to be highly offensive! These two are available right down the street at the local hardware store along with some other colors that are almost just as bad. In my opinion these are colors that do not look so great on a manly kangaroo whip. I prefer a popper that is more subtle in appearance.

On the bright side, when the popper goes flying off (which most eventually do...) hot pink is really easy to find!

I was going to say the same thing about getting a color that is easy to find. I presume you are joking about the whole "manly" thing right?
