Plan to buy a US Wings Indy-style Vintage Adventurer Jacket
First of all I'm new here.....hey everyone, and
I had a few questions:
1. I'm in between ordering a medium vs. a large. I heard these jackets run a little big. Is this true? (6'2", 180Lbs.)
2. Also I'm about 6'2"/6'3", will I need a long? How much longer in inches is the long versus regular?
3. Also how do I apply the COW discount?
The cowhide looks pretty sweet, I'm excited.
Thanks in advance for any advice

Re: Plan to buy a US Wings Indy-style Vintage Adventurer Jacket
Welcome to the forums! I don't own a US Wings jacket, so I'm not sure about the sizing - I've been thinking about picking one of these up next year. I'm sure some other members will chime in with the info you're looking for ( I'm the same height, just a bit heavier - I'm interested in the large/long specs as well ).
( I know there's some US Wings threads here in the forums, I'm just too lazy to search for 'em now - maybe later )

Yes, US Wings jackets run large. A few years ago, they were just roomy, but now they seem to be a little big. I recommend the Medium if you are on the fence. If it's too small, Wings is very good about exchanges.
As for length, I think you should order based on where you want the jacket to come to. If you like the shorter SA look, do not order a long. I hear there isn't a big difference anyhow, though. But if you like a little length to your jacket, a long might be in order.
This is my oldest Wings jacket, to show you a regular length on a regular length body. The jacket you want is slightly longer than this one. I'm 5 '9" or 5 '10" (depends on who you ask), and I have short legs. Thus, a low belt line for my height.
Sleeves are pretty generous on the regular sizes, but if you have particularly long arms you need to consider that. I have arms that would be considered a "short" and my tailor tells me she cut 2 1/2" off my Wings jackets!

Welcome to the club! Well everyone has their opinion about the wings jackets and only you can make that final option. I'm 6'3 and 3/4 (200lbs) so all most 6'4. I have the jacket your seeking to buy. I ordered a large and it was a little small on me so I sent it back, oh and I didn't get the long and I need it for my long arms. So I ended up with a XL long and it fits me perfect. I have a little room for a sweater if needed to layer and be warmer in the winter months. Order what you think is best and send it back if it doesn't fit. Good luck and enjoy that new jacket!
Re: Plan to buy a US Wings Indy-style Vintage Adventurer Jacket
I'm also interested in one of these...particularly the fit, the quality and thickness of the leather, and the construction details.
I'm 5' 10", and weigh 175 lbs. Size 40 fits well in most coats. Am interested in the non-distressed VIP cowhide or goathide.
Also interested in specifically how to apply the COW discount.

Thats good to hear that they're easy on exchanges. What about the COW discount? Anyone know how that works?Indyzane wrote:Welcome to the club! Re: Plan to buy a US Wings Indy-style Vintage Adventurer Jacket
I just got a Vintage Cowhide size Large and I love it. Personally I wouldn't say they're big, but they're certainly not tight or form-fitting like some other repro-style jackets.
I'm 5'11 and about 190 lbs and the large fits spot on. I have room to wear a hoodie or sweater but it's not baggy or oversized. It's really well made and comfortable.
My brother is about 6 to 6'1 and about 200 lbs and while the L fits him OK, he got an XL and it fits him better, especially the sleeve length.
From your size, I would think an XL would be better, but it depends on your build. It doesn't sound like you're real thin, so I don't think an XL will be too baggy on you. Plus, the XL will have a better sleeve length for you.
I'd try an XL and if it's too big or baggy, then maybe a Large Tall.
I would contact customer service or Myke Redpath to ask about the Indygear/COW discount. I believe they instructed me to mention it on the order form. Plus, they currently have a sale going so you'll get the $100 off the sale price. Great deal.
I was hoping to get the Vintage Cowhide with the cotton lining, which was listed on the website when I placed my order and I was told was still in stock, but when the jacket arrived it had the nylon lining. I didn't bother exchanging it because in the end I found the nylon to be just fine (and maybe even tougher in the long run). However, they might still have some with the cotton lining in case you want to ask.
I was a little bummed to find out that the free hat is not included with jackets purchased with the COW discount (but I already own an AB Deluxe , so it's not a big deal)

Re: Plan to buy a US Wings Indy-style Vintage Adventurer Jacket
I think you call and place your order and let them know your a cow member. Just make sure if it doesn't fit don't take the tags off
and I think you have seven days to return it. You also have to email them or call and let them know your returning the jacket and why.
It sounds technical but isn't. I really like my jacket the weight or how how heavy it is. Also the limited edition is the same
leather Tony Nowak uses. Enjoy you'll never regret buying one!

Re: Plan to buy a US Wings Indy-style Vintage Adventurer Jacket
Welcome to the club!
I've had a US Wings goat for about two months now and I love it. At 6'3" and 200 pounds, I decided to go with a large long and its roomy enough for comfortable layering. Becuase I'm in North Florida, layering isn't so important and I've been debating whether or not I should go with a medium long for a snugger fit. I just measured my jacket and the sleeves are 25.5 inches from the shoulder and the back measures 29 inches from the base of the collar.
Because pictures tell the story better than I do:
These were taken right after I took the jacket out of the box. I didn't measure the pockets, but thats a Smith 1917 for size comparison.
This one is after some wear, no leather treatment . . . I think its wrinkled rather nicely

Could someone state the back length and sleeve lengths for regular length size M and size L in these jackets?

Why not state this question to the guy who makes the jackets?ron521 wrote:Could someone state the back length and sleeve lengths for regular length size M and size L in these jackets?
Send Sarge an e-mail and ask him all the questions you need answered.
He's a nice guy, and likes to answer peoples questions about his stuff, especially if you are going to buy one!

Based on what you say there a Medium regular should be fine for youron521 wrote:I'm also interested in one of these...particularly the fit, the quality and thickness of the leather, and the construction details.

I had one of the US Wings briefly... cut a bit wide for my preferred fit however. If I could have got a M-Long with the standard Body Length I might have been happy... but I just see their short sleeve to longer body ratios as as bad or worse than Wested OTR ratios, so it just throws the correct look off for me.

Must be particular to the longs. Both of mine came with sleeves that were clearly longer than the body. I had to tailor them shorter for my stubby arms, though.

Re: Plan to buy a US Wings Indy-style Vintage Adventurer Jacket
Here are the measurements from a USWings Medium Regular.
Unless someone is very tall, over 6'2" ,very long in the torso or very long in the arms this should be good for most people.
Sleeve shoulder to cuff end - 26"
Front length along storm flap - 23.75"
Back length from bottom of collar stand to bottom - 27.5"
Side to side under arms - 23.5"
Side to side across bottom - 21.25"
Shoulder to shoulder across back - 19.5"

Did you buy it used? If so I'd venture to guess the sleeves had been shortened.theman wrote:I had one of the US Wings briefly... cut a bit wide for my preferred fit however. I have a wings goat medium, and I'm 5'8" and 198 and it's tight. when I weighed 175 it fit like a glove, the only thing with wings is they make a great product but sometimes they run big, like others have metioned, I agree call customer service and you'll do fine. good luck

Re: Plan to buy a US Wings Indy-style Vintage Adventurer Jacket
When looking at their size chart the upper size given for chest measurement is the size the jacket is cut for. If your chest size falls on the lower end you might find a better fit in the next size jacket down.

Just to clarify, that refers to the 'regular' being suitable for most people, not the medium size.Unless someone is very tall, over 6'2" ,very long in the torso or very long in the arms this should be good for most people.

Re: Plan to buy a US Wings Indy-style Vintage Adventurer Jacket
I just had one more question. I think I'm going to go with a medium long. I was wondering how is the quality of the distressed cowhide leather of this jacket? Thick/thin? Winter gear/4 season gear? Overall quality?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Plan to buy a US Wings Indy-style Vintage Adventurer Jacket
I really like the hide. It's actually a distressed hide, not that fake distressed-look stuff. This makes it color rather light (but I hear some Picard's will darken it if you want). The leather somewhat thick, but I've seen thicker. Also, it's a bit stiff and needs time to break in. My tailor seems to think it is tough a hide and a very well-built jacket.
Personally, I find it warm, and only wear it when it's under 50 degrees F... well under is best for me. But I feel the heat more than most people, so you might get away with a greater window of wearability. With a light sweater underneath, it's adequately warm for most winter temps above freezing. I would not recommend wearing it in the summer.
Overall, I think it's a great hide.
