wested are cut big

I recall reading that wested's are military cut. Meaning if you request a 42reg for chest they add 4 inches so in fact you get a 46. Is this truly the case, and if so why would people also request additional room if they already add it for you.

I found this - I ordered a Wested recently and it is great, but one slight problem is that it is still a little wide - it could have done with being a few inches tighter. But I wouldnt calaculate yourself but communicate with Peter and say you want it VERY tight in the 1980s style cut or something.

I wear a 42 R. However I bought a a Lambtouch in a 40 R & it fits perfect.
Which indicates Wested runs a lttle big.
For reference I bought a Disney in a large & it swallowed me....I'm 6' 180lbs go figger?

kooky. I always found my Westeds to be a bit tight in the shoulders and just perfect in the chest, with no play at all. In fact, it's snugg enough that I can't get a sweatshirt or pullover under it for extra layers.

I will agree with this too. I normally take a size 42 jacket, and I
went with a size 44 Wested and I am glad I did! They do tend
to run a little on the snugger fitting side like A-2 jackets.

I wanted to wear sweaters and sweatshirts under it, and Peter
recommended the size 44 for me, and it fits really good.

I will agree that up in the shoulder area they all seem to be able
to use a little more room as they are tighter fitting around your
upper arms/shoulders than most of todays jackets.

Also, if your stomach is bigger than your chest, which some folks
are, you will want to get a larger size to fit over the ol' gut.
Without this, you will not be able to zip the jacket up again as they
are a more form fitting jacket.

The best thing for you to do is this. Take a jacket that you already
own, and zip it up, and lay if flat on the bed, chest side up.

Then measure it across the chest, from under one armpit to the
other. Double that measurement, and you will have the jackets
total chest measurement. Compare this to what Peter has on
his website, and you can zone in on the correct fit.

Also, take all the other measurements of the jacket that fits you
best, like the back measurement, the sleeves, the shoulders, and
compare them to Peters website.

You will then see if the longer TOD style is better for you, or you
can see if you would want a shorter length jacket such as the
Raiders.

Well, Flathead, you were doing ok until you said to put on the jacket, then lay on the bed. I'd fall immediately asleep. Once I woke up, I'd have forgotten what I was there for originally, then take my coat off and hang it back in my closet.
