My Akubra Fed IV
Well since I'm finally getting around to posting pics I figured I would get one up of my Fed IV. I LOVE this hat. Had it going on a year now. Wear it every were. I tried to put in a Raiders bash. Not the best bash but I like it. I did give the Fed the turn. Well without further adieu.

Re: My Akubra Fed IV
Great hat. I keep going back and forth on getting one, but they look like they would be fun!
Re: My Akubra Fed IV
Never regretted my Akubra purchases, and may pick up another one as a Christmas gift this year (family gift--don't get your hopes up, Secret Santa...)
LOVE my Akubras (brown one and a moonstone.) Only question I have about getting another one for myself is carbon gray or black.

Re: My Akubra Fed IV
I wish I could get that nice a bash on my Fed IV. Yours looks just the way I was hoping mine would turn out, with the deep center dent and the smooth round shape to the humps. Excellent work, IndianaSean!

Re: My Akubra Fed IV
Thanks Davidd. I am humbled by your praise. I wasn't sure I would be able to get the bash right. I was pretty nervous. I am still tweeking with the thing to this day! Its a never ending journey right? Do you have a photo of your fed? I might be able to help you out.

Re: My Akubra Fed IV
Thank you for the generous offer of assistance! I may take you up on that. Actually, after looking at your photos today, I took my Fed IV and pushed out all the dents. I ran it under the tap to wet it a little, and I'm letting it dry in more-or-less "unbashed" shape. I couldn't quite get the front pinch to entirely disappear, but I'm hoping that when it dries it will be close to "original" shape. When I'm ready to tackle the re-bash, I'll be using your photos as a guide, and I might be asking a few questions!
As for photos, I've tried to take photos of just the hat, numerous times, and I just can't get a decent "hat only" photo! I mean, how hard can it be to take a photo of a hat, right? It's not like it moves much, or closes its eyes when the flash fires! I just haven't been able to get the lighting right to show off the shape. I'll try photos once more when I undertake the re-bash.
Again, thanks for the offer of assistance!

Re: My Akubra Fed IV
I have a Fed IV and I would not trade for it. It's not the perfect, MOST SA hat, but for the money, warts and all it's just what I need. Color barrier seems to be the last frontier. It would be nice to get a lighter colored Fed. IV, say in the 'light sable' or just a shade lighter range. Maybe one day?

Re: My Akubra Fed IV
About the hat in the first post, what color is it? Is it the Dark Brown or Tawny Fawn color? Just wanted to know, because I notice the lighting is changing the color somewhat. Thanks!

Its dark brown. The flash from the camera has lightened the color somewhat. The true color of the hat is whats on my avatar.

The artificial lighting makes it appear reddish, whether the flash, bulb or both.

Re: My Akubra Fed IV
Yeah the lighting I snapped this in is not the best. My camera flash is not really good either. Also there are still traces of fullers earth still on the hat. But it definately is dark brown.

I'm not sure if I missed how long you had your Fed, but it will lighten and soften alot over time. The best way to break them in is just to wear them.
I have a fed in each color and various trim levels (standard and deluxe). They are great hats and can take a heck of a lot of punishment!
