Water repellent spray in the UK?

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good water repellent for fedoras available in the UK? I can find various US products but becasue they're in cans they can't ship them by air....

As a sort of adjunct to this what can I use as felt stiffener? Is there something I can use to partially 'set' the bash once I have something I like?

There is a website called www.fabricuk.com. They are in Birmingham and stock a wide range of protective sprays. They might be worth a look.

stiffener is really just shellac diluted in alcohol. you could buy some clear shellac and make a solution by thinning it with denatured alcohol. if you go to hatsupply.com you can find the product safety sheet for their stiffener which lists what is in it. or you could buy this:

are you having trouble keeping a bash set in a hat? because usually if you set a bash and just keep reinforcing the shape it will set and keep on it's own.

Fedora recommended to me that I use scotchgard. Make sure it is the NON-SILICONE type. I do not know if they sell it in the UK, but if they do it is something to consider.

can this be used for felt hats? it's a cleaner with protector... they say it's like foam or something.

I'd be a bit leery of it, as it is just a fabric cleaner, not a standard water type repellent you're looking for.

It states:

Ideal for sofas, slip covers, throw pillows, chair cushions, table linens, and curtains

I don't see 'felt' listed, and unless it says something like that, always err to the side of caution.

ummmm... so which scotchgard do you guys use? is it there on their site as well?

We use 'regular' Scotchgard in the red plaid can.

This is the protector. You found the 'cleaner', and that's not the stuff you want.

After extensive trips to the mall and other stores... I still have yet to find the "protector" only spray. I did buy the "cleaner" to test on my hat, though.

What are the signs I should look out for to know that this product might have disastrous results on my hat? How long does it take for the ill-effects to be seen?
