Beat up, well abused, kinda Indy like fedora

Post by beaverlid »

This is my go everywhere do everything hat. It isn't SA to any of the Indy movies. The ribbon is to wide and the bash is just a whatever is comfortable bash. I was reading a thread earlier and noticed how often everybody is trying to get their fedora to look exactly like The Indy hat from one of the movies. I wanted to post a pic of a well worn and little by little turning into a well loved hat that I don't actually care what style it turns into as long as it holds up and suits me. The brim has gotten a little floppy and the ribbon is faded with some sweat discoloration but all in all it is a fine hat.

I talked to BendingOak and he told me not to grab the fedora by the crown. He said it should always be handled by the brim. So that is what I do and the brim has become very soft and yet it maintains it shape.

Post some of your well worn hats that have taken on a shape of their own.

That looks like a well loved hat! I´m a fan of wider ribbons so I´m really digging this one. The fading reminds me very much of my old Miller fedora.
Beautiful hat!

Tundrarider, it is Indy-ish, but I don't tweak it to try and get a certain style. Believe it or not it has been under the water more then once. That gives it the look that I prefer. Rumpled comes to mind. Anybody with a better eye then me see any signs of it begining to taper?

Bink, there is nothing like being on the river. The fedora is the perfect hat for it. There are two things I never go without; first is my trusty fedora and the second is a fine cigar. ;)

That´s my Young Indy-style Christy´s with a 3" brim and a vintage 2" ribbon.

Can´t wait to see some more pictures of your hat!

I agree, the hat's you. With as many "is my hat SA" pics as we see here, I love it when folks share their "this is MY hat" pics.

Here is a picture of my, beat up, Indy-like fedora which, I have worn everyday since the first day I received it about 41/2 months ago. It has become quite floppy, all around, since then.

Wow, that looks great, Bdgsi11! I would say that looks quite Indy. The ribbon color is about all that is off. It has no taper at all, in fact from that angle, it even seems to have some reverse taper on the sides! And that's a rabbit fur hat? I'm very curious to know who made it as well...

Thanks guys for the comments. The hat is a rabbit fur blend, although I am not sure what the other part of the blend is. As for the hatter, I think that it should only be obvious given the off color of the ribbon; it is a Peters Bros. custom Raiders modified by myself. My Henry, which is on its way, shall hopefully relieve me of my quest for the most SA Raiders fedora I have ever owned. I am having it bashed by John, raven bar style, who seems to know all the details of the Raiders hat very well. I cannot wait!! :D ;)
