So, I got my new WPG bag this morning, and it's still empty....

What do you folks keep in your MK VII bag?
Besides rare artifacts, of course.

My egyptology books on trips to and from my classes, a gold plated laqued fountain pen (real 30's looing), a mechanical pencil (or whatever you call them) and my notebook (a paper one, not a computer)

In the small pocket in the middle I keep a compass. In the smaller back pocket I keep my moleskine address book, the other back pocket I keep my regular leather journal. In the main front part I keep a steno notebook and whatever paperback I am reading, a regular moleskine notebook (i am addictied to those little books), my fountain pen and a mechanical pencil. Where the little pocket on the outside is I keep one of my dogtags attached with the small chain through the eyelet for the string (the tag is tucked in the pocket).

Since I got my WPG bag, I don't use my pockets anymore. I put my wallet, phone, diary, moleskin sketchbook and other stuff in there. I use it for work- all the time. I keep a little measuring tape in there as well for site visits (I work for an Architect). That little pocket in the centre though I find hard to use... but these bags rock!

Well,...

I HAD a Mark VII Bag, found it at a market in England while stationed there. Lacking online access at the time, I decided that "Nah, this ain't Indy's bag, it don't look right, I reckon, hmmmm.."

I gave it to a friend and forgot about it.

This maybe one of the thousands of reasons why some new people don't post.
I also get hit myself in the head over and over now that I realize that Wested and Noel Howard were right under my nose. I discovered this AFTER I came home. That's always a nice recollection.

No MkVII, but my Indy-esque, re-strapped gas mask bag is used by me to transport soap, shampoo, toothbrush, razor, etc. back and forth from the ol' Dorm room to the Shower.

Leaves both hand free to protect the integrity of the towel. It's risky business walking otherwise with college-kid humor

I carry a Moleskine notebook in one of the inside pockets, a Leica IIIa in the other (1937 vintage, perfect for the good doctor). Also a WWI vintage compass, and a couple of fountain pens. An old American military canteen fits nicely in there, as well.

In my WPG MkVII I carry:

-Wells Lamonts
-6" fixed blade Buck knife
-small first aid kit
-50" of parachute line
-wire saw
-Mag Lite (the two AA battery size)
-a pack of spare AA batteries
-a small 3"x5" Bible
-a few, maybe 4, small bungee cords
-book of matches
-lighter (disposable Bic variety as I don't own a "Lucky Charm")
-Victorinox "Super Tinker" knife
-spare bullets (only when I'm hunting, otherwise I don't carry a gun so no bullets)

I think that's it. I don't carry my bag every day, just when I'm out in the woods or hiking.

Took a trip to Squaw Valley skiing over the Thanksgiving holidays. Took my bag with assorted food items, magazines, and cell phone. Now, I didn't wear the bag while skiing, but wore it on the plane ride over there, as well as my leather jacket, PB fedora, and my new JCrews.

2-3 books
gameboy
notebook
pens and pencils
magazines
cd player
cd's
some food
anything else i want on the plane
I use my repro when i go on vacations so if i lose it or it gets torn or sommin i havent hurt my real one.

When i go on short car trips:
cd's
cd player
magazines
books
notebook and pencil

and for hiking:
Gloves
Water
knife (with my m1 bayonet on my belt too)
rope
anything else i need

i think thats it...

Make that three hardboiled eggs... I carry everything I need when I use the bag for fossil-finding at the danish beaches. Come to think of it... I dont really need much: Something to eat, something to drink and a place to small fossiles. The bag is great for that, the holes in the bottom makes the water drop out. Phone, notebook etc. is in the Wested, where else?

The only 'disappointment' of the replica bag is the two bottons, they should be plain instead of with patterns.

Mak, I think you should remember that this is a forum for people of all ages, I dont really think your first comment is appropriate, IMHO. And actually, the real bag, like the repros has the pattern on the buttons. Although, on the real bags, its the lines are thinner and they are smaller than on the repros. The plain buttons are also mainly on MKVI's but there are some cases of plain buttons on MKVII's.

hi gearheads,

refering to a condom does not seem any more inappropriate that refering to guns and ammo in the mk vii. i am reminded of a comedian who once quipped about how, in america, it is ok for kids to watch tv episodes where people kill and maim each other, but god forbid if they should actually be exposed to anything that connotes sexuality.

politically correct? i guess it would be "politically correct" for indy to use protection...hehe. i hope that there are not politically correct administraters who police this site with a puritanical eye. being tasteful and considerate does not equate to being victorian in one's worldview.

besides, it most likely wouldn't be the young readers of indygear who would be offended by the mention of a condom in a mark vii...it would no doubt be the parents. but since indy was an academic, i firmly believe that he believed in the first ammendment. also, any fan of the movies knows that indy defintely was heterosexual...and we all know that he was a careful guy.

Maybe the condom was in the MK VII to be used as an emergency canteen by being placed in a sock, as recommended in many survival manuals( Non lubed preferred for this use ). After all, Indy is a carefull guy.

Remember the kid who was "banned" by his parents for destroying a fedora? Well, some of the younger ones might be in danger of the same fate if their parents are offended by some of these comments. While it is quite natural, and should be taught, it's best to keep it in a proper venue. After all, we can't decide what's right for one kid or another, that's best left to their parent or guardian.

In any case, my MK VI contains my GPS, roller ball pens, Venice map, Salzburg map, northern Italy map, moleskine, old brass compass, clover lighter, smokes, and pocket change.
