Any suggestion for the new guy

Post by brex »

I'am about to order my first jacket but need some input from the professionals. I have been lurking for month reading and pondering my jacket and here is what I came up with.

Jacket specs:
height 5.9
jacket size 42 reg
sleeve 24.75
back length 25
temple of doom style
lambtouch leather
cotton body/ satin sleeves
anodised black sliders
Nicle zipper to extend almost to the bottom of the jacket
back panel to extend all the way out to the inside edge of sleeve seem
gussets
1' extra in the front to allow for ride up
pockets 71/2 wide, 6 1/2 tall flap depth 3' from top of roll seem to lowest point of flap (per chris King)
smaller raiders collar

Any additional info or suggestions would be great.

Hi Brex

Firstly welcome to the forum. A personal suggestion would be to ask Wested to put a hidden elastic strip on the action pleats for you. You wont see it or know its there at all. However it does the magic job of making sure the elastic pleats will close (something which can be a problem with the Westeds). I experienced this with the Wested jacket I bought 2 years ago, but I ordered once recently with the elastic and its perfect. I am terribly glad I did it. Hope this helps :)

PS - Also decide if you want leather facing on the inside pocket or not. It comes as standard and was the one thing I forgot to mention when ordering my jacket. I wish now I hadn't got it as it distorts the way the jacket drapes (its not a really big deal though - it certainly doesnt detract from the overall enjoyability of the jacket).

Another idea you might want to consider is having yout sleeves tapered, so the cuff is a little smaller than standard. This worked great for me on my new wested - it looks better and the wind doesn't blow up your sleeves as much

Aside from misspelling "nickel", I don't see anything wrong with your specs.

Thinking about the facing on the inside pocket is a good suggestion, depending on how you plan to use it, I'd say keep it if you constantly store stuff inside your coat. But keep in mind your wrist size when thinking about additional taper to the sleeves. Be careful not to end up with a jacket that's too tight.

Just my two centabos.

Only thing I'd add is order it.. be clear and to the point w/peter
they are excellent to speak with even via email
and if in doubt ask questions :)

Then do as I'm doing and wait impatiently ](*,)

Looks pretty good on this end. I would just place the order with Peter and then the fun part begins... the wait!

Any suggestion for the new guy?
Cut your credit cards in half. This stuff gets a little spendy.

You don't need to do that yourself - it gets done for you the next time you go into a store after buying a peice of gear! ;)
