I think I already made this thread, just forgot where i put it.
Anyway I would like to wear the holster, and someday even own a nice looking revolver (maybe an airsoft one for like $50) but I'd feel uneasy about going out in public with what looks like a gun. I know most people would think Indy but ya never know.
What do you think.. would it look alright?

My 2 cents (and worth every nickel) is that for most day-to-day wear it makes more sense to go without the gun, holster & whip. If they're all on the gunbelt then you just leave that off - like a carpenter leaving off his/her toolbelt. If you're "dressing up" as Indy you're either going to be in a situation where your "tools" won't excite comment or in transit so you can put them on when you arrive.

I've gone out every Halloween and have gone to numerous parties and conventions for the past 10 years with my gun and whip. I was never shy of pulling it for photos and never shy of cracking my whip and have never had one single problem. Seeing you running around like a mad man waving it all over the place is much different that just taking it out for a photo and putting it back when done.
I'm pretty surprised how many people here over the years have been pretty uptight about taking out the gun or whip, even on Halloween. That's what Halloween is for. IMO, if you're acting sane you will be treated in the same way from everyone else, cops included.

Unless I'm at a con or an event where I have been specifically asked to present Indy, I go with an empty holster. Not only does it solve a host of legality issues, it's also screen accurate!

Yep.... It isn't too smart to pack around a real gun and in some states not only is it against the law, but the same can be said for replicas. If you're going the replica route, phone the local P.D. and find out what the law says where you are. If you were thinking of carrying a real gun... Be smart and don't do it.

This is the $40 "close enough" airsoft pistol I bought, the little grip insert comes out:

I've gone out several times in full Indy, and also as a cowboy with six shooter. In over the top costumes that are easily recognizable, like a cowboy or Indy, most people get it that you're in costume (especially around halloween or movie premiers), but you never know. I've had cops draw down on me because of a timing light for my car that someone called in and reported, so...user beware I guess. Keep the orange on the tip and do EXACTLY what the law enforcement officers say...those Glocks have hair triggers

Yes, ALWAYS err on the side of caution and sensibility. There was one guy I saw pictures of at a con who stuck a banana in the holster. Not only was that funny, but it played it safe and he had a snack for later.
You pretty much have both opinions covered here, with the best ideas leaning toward common sense and checking with your local law enforcement regarding laws in your area. With that, there's really nothing more to add, so we'll shut this one down before it can get out of hand and politically charged.
