Fed Deluxe vs The Uptowner

Post by darthbish »

Would this even be a competition??

Surely the Deluxe would win hands down with felt quality, price and a manufacturer with the experience of Akubra..

Bish, You could be right, but since the Uptowner has only been around for a very short time it's really too early to know for sure :TOH:

The best way to answer that would be to have the two in hand (as opposed to just speculating when not having seen one or both in person) and to do a field test on both hats. The Akubra has a long and respected track record, whereas the Uptowner is still wet behind the ears, if you will, but that doesn't necessarily mean the Uptowner couldn't handle the abuse, either. It is a bit early to tell.

I think if Todd wanted to share the maker(s) of the Down/Uptowners he would have by now. :#: Todd's always been very upfront with this community about the quality + price = value of his gear. The items that have come out of his shop to date have generally been deemed a good value. And Todd's willing to stand behind his goods and make things right.

Early reports from those that have bought each hat have been positive, but only time will tell about durability.

Indiana Jeff

The only fedora I've owner before my Todd Uptowner was an Magnoli HJ. The Todd looks and feels like a quality hat. I have no reason to think it's not going to stand the test of time.

I love my Todd's Downtowner. It's a stiff hat (bulletproof?). I've worn it daily for over a month, pretty much from the time I wake up till I go to bed, have tweaked it endlessly over the stove (thanks OCD) and it's holding up great. It's a beautiful hat with a true ROTLA character/caricature look.
