Re: New Nowak Goatskin (Raiders Jacket)
Exactly Rundquist and Baldwyn. It isn't the only choice.
The vintage is interesting stuff, obviously not for everyone, and it is dark, yes darker than the shrunken lamb. Once the vintage starts 'working' though it shows lighter more medium browns through. It is designed to look 'old' and 'worn in' quickly, and it does that for certain.
The surrogates jacket worn by Bruce Willis is Cowhide, in a Burgandy-ish colour but made to look well worn and lived in.
I think Han Jones had an LC jacket made in non-shiney Vintage goat.

Trust me RC, the shine was the last thing I was thinking of... And same goes for the 'blinds'...RCSignals wrote:I think that's from the shiney effect. I prefer the look of the non-shiney versionCastor Dioscuri wrote:Wow. Tony's personal jacket reminds me more of Crocodile Dundee than Indiana Jones to be honest... Can't say I'm a big fan of that look personally. Well, it really looks like Tony really does practice what he preaches about beating the **** out of his jackets!
It's all about the texture. Anyone here will tell you I'm a big fan of Nowak, and I have a wardrobe full of his work that should back me up here! But the texture on the jacket... Something just turns me off about it, to be completely honest.
Seriously? It just reminds me of this...
I mean, RC... no knocking on Tony or anything, but it's all about the leather. It just doesn't scream Indy to me... And I stand by my earlier statement that it reminds me of this instead:
I have two Nowak's shrunken lamb, and they are dead on for the Raiders look, but the leather on Tony's jacket looks like it's overdoing it, I feel. Maybe if Indy passed his jacket on to his grandkids it might look like that, but as it is, I just think it's too much. Remember, it must be subtle enough that the Indygear community wouldn't REALIZE that it was striated for a couple DECADES! That jacket would stick out like a sore thumb, even with all the film 'grain' in the world!
But if you like the look of it, more power to you. The important thing though is that the wearer is happy with it, after all, one man's meat is another man's poison.

Re: New Nowak Goatskin (Raiders Jacket)
Don't worry Castor I know you are a big fan of Tony's work and are in a race to stay ahead in numbers owned
Interesting you see the texture of that vintage goat like that. It has become very wrinkly on his jacket but the leather itself is quite devoid of the cracked textured earth you show. I guess it's the photos, and maybe the shine exaggerates the wrinkling.
I don't know what the horizontal lines are from. Maybe Rundquist can tell us if it's really obvious as in the photo
I personally wouldn't order the Raiders in that vintage goat. I have seen one in the non-shiney and it looks not bad, the owner loves it and it changes look daily.
The Nowak Goat of orbs I would order on a Raiders for sure, it looks great.
The vintage though might make a good ToD jacket. Someone needs to get one in it so we can see.

I assume you were quoted for this current Vintage Goat?Baldwyn wrote:.. (Tony quoted me $975 but not sure if that price still stands)
Anyway that's why it's best for people to ask the prices of Tony themselves.
Re: New Nowak Goatskin (Raiders Jacket)
I like the look, but then I'm not wanting a copy of the film jacket, just one very like it. This one looks like a real-life Indy might have worn it. Not keen on thin leather however, even if strong. i like a little body... doesn'teveryone?

Yes, but this was in June, and not sure if his prices slide around.RCSignals wrote:I assume you were quoted for this current Vintage Goat?Baldwyn wrote:.. (Tony quoted me $975 but not sure if that price still stands)

Wow, I really like Tony's personal jacket! It is the closest I've seen any of the leathers come to conveying that on-screen Hawaii jacket texture. Despite its drape, I always imagined it to be a bit dry and flaky on the surface, particularly when you see the close up of Indy's hands holding the map. However, it might look a little too hardcore for every day street use and is probably best suited for someone with a weathered, well-lived in face.

If it was june it may not have been for the Vintage Goat, and wouldn't have been for the Nowak Goat. so still best to ask Tony.Baldwyn wrote:Yes, but this was in June, and not sure if his prices slide around.RCSignals wrote:I assume you were quoted for this current Vintage Goat?Baldwyn wrote:.. ....you mean like him?
Re: New Nowak Goatskin (Raiders Jacket)
RC, why you gotta question me? Tony's vintage goat jacket was 4 days old when I saw it. Here's my first post on the subject:
Naw, the back of the collar is cut lower on the Raiders jacket. (Tony showed me this by neatly arranging a CS jacket and the 000 jacket, and illustrating how the back of the collar is lower, while the bottoms of both jackets are lined up with the front). I'm going for something in between, because there's no way I can pull off Raven Bar pose like Holt or Yojimbo in the 000 jacket (my bad posture makes all my jackets fall off the shoulder )
Tony showed me his new personal Raiders jacket, and I loooovveeeee the leather sooooo much.

not questioning you Baldwyn on the jacket, just the price of the vintage goat is what is unsure.
edit:
OK I just talked to Tony, the shiney and non-shiney vintage goat is $850

Re: New Nowak Goatskin (Raiders Jacket)
Hey Orb - what number did you end up assigning to this jacket?
Re: New Nowak Goatskin (Raiders Jacket)
I love this leather!! It took me a day to fully absorb it. On initial contact, I was reminded of my old Guide Gear Indy Jacket!! It seemed like a "sueded goatskin," even was shiny like it. The leather is very dark; I find Orb's daylight pics to be a little misleading. It is a little reddish, but very very dark. I love the grain. It's like a finer textured shrunken lamb. The "cells" aren't as big, but it's very textured, while being subtle about it at the same time. The texture isn't even, and it's not as pebbly as I remember my G&B being. Screen accurate or not, I think it's a nice representation of both the texture, and perceived smoothness of the Raiders' jacket.
The leather is thin, but it doesn't seem so unless you actually go and look. The leather is very stretchy, and if you do stretch it, it goes a lighter colour (but returns to the original shape and colour after you release it). It doesn't "mold" to form as quickly as I would think, but I'm sure it just takes time and wear.
I did a fingernail test and didn't even scratch the leather, but I'm sure it'll wear and "patina" nicely. Thank you, Tony, for this fantastic offering!

Re: New Nowak Goatskin (Raiders Jacket)
Very nice Baldwin. I'm assuming that this is the Nowak goat based on referencing Orb's jacket? I've got a swatch of that and, from looking at that, and your and Orb's jackets, it really does seem like the perfect goat to get the Raiders look. I especially love the color.
Nevermind, just looked at the thread title again. I open up a bunch of windows and forget what I'm reading sometimes.

oh and I LOOOOVE the jacket!!!

Re: New Nowak Goatskin (Raiders Jacket)
Thanks guys!!! Holt, I mean it this time! It's there in writing I guess I've had 6 Indy jackets, 7 if you count the Guide Gear (I don't, but my wife did!), and now I'm down to 3; my first Wested LC that's not very good but it was my first father's day gift (and since it's completely undistressed is a nice dressy leather jacket), my TN CS, and now this TN Raiders. I intend to beat the heck out of this jacket and leave one cool looking jacket for my son. Just kidding, I'll be buried in it.
Tundrarider, I'll get some pics soon! I think I might do some Indy skydiving pics for fun. Talk about action shots!

Wow, Baldwyn, beautiful jacket! That leather really is something else... Man, something about that leather is just so... I want one! It just looks so rough and adventure-y without coming off as being slightly tacky. And while the shrunken lamb has a real "lived-in" look, this one looks like a good compromise, coming off as a new jacket with some character, which is what it is!Baldwyn wrote:

Baldwyn you got a great looking jacket there! Congrats.
I can assure you that I got the same leather tone as you. Just try making pics of the jacket in natural daylight.

Thank you Castor! You might as well get one of these yourself. Tell Tony I sent you
Orb, thank you for your photos! Without them, and your presentation of this leather, I wouldn't have gotten this jacket! I hope you didn't take offense!
One sunlight pic.

Baldwyn & Orb... those are georgous looking jackets
The PERFECT Raider's color IMO!!!
Orb, how heavier is it than your CS cowhide? Is the leather a lot thicker?
