Prop/starter whip from Todd's, 8 foot or 10 foot?
What would be the best length for a prop whip or even a starter whip to play around with/crack once in a while
Will 8 foot look short?

Suggested sizes are 6-8 foot whips. 10 foot whips are hard for beginners to learn on so I would suggest getting the 8 foot whip. And it's all about personal preferences. I think a ten foot whip looks TOO long while coiled but a lot of people like it. So all in all, I would go with the eight foot.

Eight is just about perfect for most people, but if you are short you might consider a 6 footer. The main use for a 10 is long distance wrapping tricks, really. Not where you want to start.

I have to agree with darksideman13, 8ft would give you that length in look as the indy whip with not being to short as a 6ft but easier to manage then a 10ft (I am no beginner to whip cracking but for my personal whip I prefer the 8ft over the ten just due to its ease of cracking) Although unlike darksideman13 said with 10ft whips looking too long most whips that were on indys belt were 10ft in length. Hope that helps, if you have anymore questions feel free to ask me or others will be happy to answer.

I'd suggest you look into a Nylon whip in those lengths. A prop whip can only ever be a prop whip, but a good whip can be a prop whip. Something to think about.

Also what Hollywood1340 is very very true, I did not look that close at the title of the post. Whips by Todd's are ok even to be a prop whip, yes they will have somewhat of that Indy look to them but that's about it (no offense to Todd's whips). But a nylon whip will be just as representative and from a good whip maker is very functional for cracking. All I can say is save a few more dollars and get a higher quality leather whip that looks more the part and is totally crackable; (at that if you are looking to save some money go with a nylon version that will look very good and is totally sound for daily cracking) Hope that helped and ask more questions if you have them, we are all happy to help.

Why not get on this here internet and find the answers yourself? Doing research is half the fun! Heck 99% of my time is just that, research!

Hey man I don't think I'm the right guy to be telling that too. I spend weeks upon weeks doing research on this site. Sometimes it's just easier ASKING people.

You spent weeks of research and didn't come across those answers? Took me less then a minute for both. Todd's whip has a 12-plait overlay. As for the links, use the search function here on the board.

While I agree with you Hollywood1340, let's try not to get into it with each other.hollywood1340 wrote:You spent weeks of research and didn't come across those answers? This Isn't Work. Get Over It And Ignore It. I'm Tired Of Searching For Stuff Now So I'm Going To Just Ask. It's EASIER
Re: Prop/starter whip from Todd's, 8 foot or 10 foot?
I have no intentions of making this small dispute any worse, but in all fairness the search engine does take a little bit of practice. My only guess is that you are using sentences instead of key words. Did you type in "What is the plait of a Todd's whip?," because that wouldn't work. I would use key words like plait, Todd, whip. This searches for specific key words and not full sentences which would greatly limit your search. I just tried it and found the answer within 1 minute. Hopefully that helps!
Re: Prop/starter whip from Todd's, 8 foot or 10 foot?
forget the search engine.. you do realize that there's a thread stickied to the top of this forum that has every comprehensible indy whip vendor listed as well as the prices they charge, pictures of their whips, and links to their websites, right?hollywood1340 wrote:Yes knibs.
