Just curious but which leather do you pick for a custom LC..
jacket from Wested?
They list these options
Authentic (seal) Brown English lambskin,
Authentic Brown Goatskin,
Dark Brown Lambskin,
Washed Goat,
Dark Brown Horse hide,
Predistressed Cowhide and Novapelle an antique finish cowhide
Now for SA obviously only the lambskins count but which of the two?
Do they look worn in or brand new because I'd like one that looked rather worn in.
Now I love goatskin because of the feel plus durability, if I went that route, which one would be best?

Neither of the lambskins will look worn. In fact, the only worn look you can really get from Wested is the predistressed cowhide and novapelle. The washed goatskin will have less shine and some wrinkle to it, but it won't be distressed.
My personal feeling is that, even though the hide is wrong (or at least, so goes the story), I think predistressed cowhide looks the most like the LC jacket.
If you go lamb, go for the authentic brown. It's the most SA.
If you go with goatskin, you'll probably want the washed.

In keeping with what has been posted many times in the past, I believe Authentic Brown lamb was used in LC. However, if you order it, it will be new, shiny, and not distressed. Having received a Novapelle recently, it is a really nice distressed cowhide jacket, and the leather is very soft (appears broken in already) and prone to getting scratches, which is good from the distressing aspect....IF....you like a heavier hide. My lamb weighs about 2 1/4 lbs, and the Novapelle is about 3 1/2 to 4 lbs. I think some tend to favor Novapelle for a LC look, due to the fact that the movie jacket just looks different from the Raiders jacket, seems thicker, and at least "looks like" a different hide. If you like Novapelle but concerned about the weight, you could ask them to not add leather facings, which will lighten the jacket a little. The washed goat is very soft and does give the appearance of being worn in, though it is not distressed as Novapelle.

They currently have one that they call 'predistressed cowhide'. It's like the novapelle with warmer undertones. I've mistaken one for the copper novapelle. Oh, and they have a 'new' copper too! Drop Gemma a email and see if she will send you a sample of both.
EDIT: Mmmm this copper actually distresses interestingly....

IMO the distressing ist most important for a perfect LC!
Washed Goat is a good leather, but very matt! But if you would distress it like the moviejacket it shines very good throuth the original colour. It must have two colours.
If you distress the Authentic Lamb it would shine almost grey. The normal Novapelle, too.
Maybe Horse?

My LC jacket I got in "worn brown" horse I think (Holt described it was "warm brown horse", but Peter called it "worn").
I didn't like the look of washed goat. I really need to post pics. The hide I got is not on Peter's standard list but when he showed it to me, I liked it.

KT, just rec'd samples of the Novapelle and copper novapelle, and it is darker than yours in the pic. Nice hide! The other looks almost black. The copper has a ToD/LC vibe going on.

Re: Just curious but which leather do you pick for a custom LC..
Yeah, the NP is cow.
Re: Just curious but which leather do you pick for a custom LC..
LC? I would go for HH in the warm br horsehide.
drapes very good and has a nice br 'SA' color to it.
Nothing can compete with the look of auth.br lambskin...but its too weak and to thin...
if only they could source a mid weigth cowhide with a mid dark brown color like the HH.
that would be the most PERFECT skin for a LC.

Re: Just curious but which leather do you pick for a custom LC..

thats why I am holding back on my LC order..
at first I decided on soft goat.. but I want cowhide...

Re: Just curious but which leather do you pick for a custom LC..
I've always preferred cow as a leather. The only problem is unless you live a locale that gets alot of winter, its not too practial...unless you could possibly get it in a light weight cowhide. Just received a copper n/p sample today, and really like the new copper n/p hide. It would be great if we could get it slightly thinner. In fact, the grain of this copper n/p sample looks like it is lamb.
Re: Just curious but which leather do you pick for a custom LC..
I actually like the look of their ent currcowhide too.. looks really soft. but they say its the heaviest leather they have in the shop..heavier then HH...
why do they source so heavy hides beats me...
if they only could source the good mid weight mid dark br cowhide...the LC's would be SO much more popular I think....

Re: Just curious but which leather do you pick for a custom LC..
Based on an email I received, he's looking into it. May be possible soon. Also the regular novapelle is not distressed, but the copper is.
Re: Just curious but which leather do you pick for a custom LC..
yes I know. I had him on the phone yesterday. he is sending me a sample. he says its ver y soft and a mid weigth. weighs less then the novapella. But it has a very, very slight worn in look to it....
maby this will be the perfect LC hide?

Re: Just curious but which leather do you pick for a custom LC..
are you saying the new Copper N/P is a very soft, mid-weight hide?
Re: Just curious but which leather do you pick for a custom LC..
no. Im saying that the new cowhide is a mid weigth. or so I was tiold.
it has nothing to do with novapella. its something totally different...

Do you know anything about it, such as color, distressing? Can you post some pics when you get the samples? thanks.
If we could get the new copper n/p in a medium weight hide, it would be great!

Re: Just curious but which leather do you pick for a custom LC..

sure. Peter sent out a sample today he said...
I cant whait.
he said it had a very slight worn look with some grain. it looks almost like a new finsih skin he said but with a slight 'waxy' feel to it...

My leading candidate at the moment is the copper n/p.

Re: Just curious but which leather do you pick for a custom LC..
Is it possible to tan goat the same way as n/p?
Re: Just curious but which leather do you pick for a custom LC..
LOVE your avatar!
as for your quesion? wahsed goat is close to NP but not the same. so if they can wash it they probably can to the NP thing to it.

Though I live in the UK where we get a fair bit of rain it seldom gets freezing cold so which leather, in your opinions, is the thinnest/lightest?

The washed goat is next closely followed by the soft goat.

Re: Just curious but which leather do you pick for a custom LC..
I still have to read this whole thread,
but I think it'd be wise to go with an LC jacket since that's my favorite movie.
I'd like it to have a shiny look, dark brown ala Raiders and probably new finish.
