Easy wear on an old goat Wested

Post by CM »

I have a 2002 goat LC that I haven't worn much since I got it. It's never been wet and it has probably been given about 6-8 months of gentle wear in total over the years.

The goat is wearing in much more than I thought was possible. In some spots it's now softer than lamb. Stupidly soft. The colour is fading all over in patches like it has seen sun and/or hard wear (which it has not). And Holt, the under-coat appears to be very light yellow-brown, not grey...

My question is, does goat normally wear that easily? And does Wested use a "weak" colour that easily fades? I have never had a jacket that has aged with that little amount of wear. I'm not complaining, but I am surprised. It almost looks like I distressed it on purpose, which I hate the idea of. :M:

I actually like the jacket more now than when I got it. I was annoyed at first that it didn't have the same pocket flaps as the film version, but now I care a lot less about SA and more about whether the jacket has the right vibe... ;) It looks like a cool old jacket, and since I have no interest in the Indy costume (only the jacket) that's okay with me.

Thanks Cris... I don't have photos. Or a camera. I'll do better next time, I promise.

You could at least draw a picture :H:

It sounds interesting CM. I don't think goat generally distresses that easily especially on something not used much. Maybe yours is made form some that wasn't chrome tanned and has an aniline finish?

Maybe what I'm going to say is too obvious but, well... anyway: : even if you haven't used it, the jacket is seven years old. Waxes and oils that were applied to protect the leather must have dried a lot :-k

That one doesn't hold up. I have many leather jackets - 12 or so. Most of them are older than my wested and have seen more action. None of them look as worn. Besides, this goat is wearing to softness not dryness. My view is if a jacket can wear like this when you're not actually wearing it, then it must have special qualities. I'm going to go with the idea that the dye finish was aniline, or something similar... :TOH: My goat G&B which has had much more wear and has even been in the washing machine, looks pristine still. Go figure.

Burn? Ahhhh… Come one, that’s just for beginners. There are much better methods to deal with a witch-jacket: first throw her in the washing machine and/or in the dryer. Once you have done that you must rub her with sand paper and apply alcohol all over her skin. She will get very much distressed, screaming ‘RAIDERS!’ all the time :whip:
