New DVD Available

I just wanted to make a quick post saying that the instructional DVD I was working on earlier this year is finally finished and available at http://www.winrichwhips.com/adam-store.html

The instructional portion of the DVD teaches 5 cracks: the cattleman's, the overhead, the flick, the fast figure 8, and the Tasmanian cutback. It also includes whip maintenance and a couple ways to make and tie on crackers.

The extras on the DVD include:

cracking a 220 ft whip (World's Longest Whip)
How to cut cans in half
my full length show at the 2009 Arizona Renaissance Festival
Can cutting duel in the Don Juan and Miguel 'Weird Show' at the Scarborough Renaissance Fair
Fire whip cracking at night

Overall there's almost 3 hours of footage on this DVD. I feel that even if someone already knows all the cracks taught in this video, the stuff we crammed into the extras section is still worth the price of the DVD.

I do indeed have it and the first thing I watched was the how to crack the 220 foot whip. Now after seeing it I want one, so does anybody know where I can trade in my 22 footer and get a 220 footer? It was amazing to see Adam do a fast figure eight with it.................................okay did I get you? Of course that is not how you do it, but i was extremely interesting to have how the crack is done, the properties of physics involved and then watch it. This is not something that is easily done and from the looks of it takes tremendous amounts of strength to accomplish.

I watched the DVD in reverse order, saving the instruction portion for last. So after he 220 foot whip it was watching Adam do cracks with his 22 footer, including some cracks you would think not be possible. Adam is a heck of a strong dude! The renfaire show was fun and you get a sample of what I have had the pleasure of seeing these past 9 weeks every Saturday and Sunday. The goofing off during the great can cutting contest was hilarious.


The instructional portion was a bit different than the others I have seen and I liked it. Adam starts off by showing you the crack and the motions. Then he has three people, one a tiny little girl who is too cute, come and learn to crack. Adam then will step in from time to time and help the person make the necessary adjustments. Its really neat that you get to see the smile erupt from their faces when the first good crack echos forth. Once the first crack happened, they all become pretty good doing them, again, especially the little girl. In truth I am pretty sure this is how I looked when I first started cracking.

Now it seems to me that they must be about a 100 different ways to make a cracker. There is the method posted here as a sticky on this forum, there are numerous others in books and found on the web, as well as many on whip makers web sites. In the DVD, Don Juan (Juan Miguel right?) shows his method, which was in fact new to me and looks pretty simple. Adam showed his as well-and he always has the neatest (as in clean and straight and even) crackers. You also get to see first hand methods of attaching them to the fall, including one before you make the cracker.

And the fire whips. What can I say, done at night, two handed and spectacular. If you have a good sound system turn it up. The sound a fire whip makes as the flames are rushing through the air in the 100's of miles per hour is really awesome. During the performances I have seen Adam do, I always like to watch the crowds reaction to the initial crack and fireball and then the sound the whips as they are handled.

Its a lot of entertainment and education, nearly three (3) hours worth. Buy it, watch it and enjoy it. I did!

ps-I am not sure if the COW members know this or not, but Adam is also a very accomplished blues harmonica player as well and he supplies his own sound track as well.
