I want it Marcus, I want it in my hands: my future Jacka 10'

Post by Mike »

As mentioned in another thread, Terry is waiting on the permits still to send my whip, but he was kind enough to send a picture. This has been my first major gear purchase in years and I've anxiously been waiting on it since February.

Can't wait to get it!

Looks great Mike, It shouldn’t be too much longer now.

You will find this whip a lot different then your David Morgan bullwhip, they are pretty cool bullwhips though. I love mine and am patiently waiting an 8ft to go with it . :whip:

Congrats Mike!
I really like mine as well! The fun part is breaking it in....

Dan,
How long did it take for you to break in your transition? I have been working with mine for about a month and it is still stiff.

That is a fine looking whip. Terry must really be swamped with orders to have such a long waiting list. I got my stock whip after a 9-10 month wait, and it is worth every minute of it. It should not be long to we see it in your hands.

Since when does a whipmaker need permits to mail a bullwhip domestically?

Dan,
How long did it take for you to break in your transition? I have been working with mine for about a month and it is still stiff.

Allen, it took a while even with a lot of use. The whip will still retains some tension and rigidity in the first foot and a half to two feet up from the handle, that’s just a characteristic of Terry Jackas bullwhips. After a while though it starts to flexes and coils much more naturally, more like the whips used for the film. I will say though, as the whip breaks in, in my opinion it gets better. It’s still a beast of a whip, but it’s become a favorite of mineHere's a quick recent photo of mine for comparison.

Terry Jacka is in Australia, Australian whip makers need to have a permit issued from the Australian Governments Department of Environment, Water, Heritage, and the Arts to legally export kangaroo hide products outside the country. The permit is issued under an environmental protection and biodiversity conservation act of 1999, If the proper paperwork is not included with the shipment U.S. Customs agents can confiscate it.

Mike, Keep us posted on your order status and make sure to post some photos when you get it.

Not at all. Of course now I have the old Heinz commercial (and Carly Simon song) "Anticipation" going through my head.

Oh, and to totally not date myself with that one, Joey from Friends was in one of those spots.

Now I don't feel so old.

Anyone up for a round of "I am stuck on Band-Aids cause Band-Aid's stuck on me…"? ;)

Just got the notice from Terry that mine is ready to ship. Just got to shoot him the shipping fees and it'll be on its way. Here's an updated pic with the varnish applied.

Do the Jacka CS whips naturally darken to the burgundy like color that we see on screen or do you order it that way? I would assume that it darkens naturally, as does any whip. Also, what about the knots? They don't seem blackish like they do on screen...
