Todd's Uptowner Fedora
I looked around and didn't see a post on this. Todd has listed his Uptowner Fedora for $150. Anyone know any details on this, or better yet, have one?

Re: Todd's Uptowner Fedora
I typed "uptowner" in the search function and had it look in the fedora section and instantly came up with the threads that talk specifically about the hat. Heck, you even posted in at least one of these threads!

Aha, you think you have gotten me, Binkmeister (and perhaps you might still ), but, if I looked over these threads correctly, all of these threads were on the Downtowner, while mentioning that an Uptowner was on the horizon.
Now that it's available, I was wondering if anyone knew the specifics of the hat (stiffness, materials, etc.).
Back in your court, my friend!!

Re: Todd's Uptowner Fedora
Todd's site update, and listing the Uptowner, seems to have been added just within the last week or so. I was somewhat surprised Todd hasn't mentioned anything about it himself, but I'm sure more info is coming. I'm certainly interested to see how the Uptowner differs from the Downtowner.

Maybe you're really after the Midtowner. I was thinking they were one in the same.crismans wrote: Aha, you think you have gotten me, Binkmeister (and perhaps you might still ), but, if I looked over these threads correctly, all of these threads were on the Downtowner, while mentioning that an Uptowner was on the horizon.

Re: Todd's Uptowner Fedora
I emailed Todd and was told that these are rabbit and come styled in a Raider's pinch. They are also softer than the downtowner. That's all I know!

Re: Todd's Uptowner Fedora
I was thinking these "Uptowner" hats would be more than $150. That price puts it in line with the Christy's and the Fed 4's.....
I take it that him saying that it comes with the Raiders pinch means this hat is also already styled and doesn't come open crowned?
I hope Todd jumps in and gives us an update. I'd like to know more myself.

Re: Todd's Uptowner Fedora
Nick,
There are no pics, sorry. I haven't sold one yet. I will be getting a description up today. Also, I will add a new multi-angle feature, but I don't know how long that will take me to implement.
The hats are open crown, and they are beautiful. Very, very nice, dense rabbit, proper bow-work, etc. Plain white liner on this run. Perhaps if there is a demand, I will have custom liners made. Made in England (okay, let the experts begin to guess the manufacturer.) In fact, the mfg has made hats for HJ. The crown block makes a good raiders hat. A much better hat than the HJ's I was selling for twice the price.
The felt is not "floppy". It is very dense and firm. Not much stiffener. The crown is hand-shapable. I'd compare the feel to an Akubra, maybe a little softer. A very fine hat.

Re: Todd's Uptowner Fedora
I think that this is the hat I have been waiting for, as I have never spent more than $150 on a hat in my life. I am excited.
I wonder if Todd would give a discount to the first ten to sell or something...?
(Never hurts to ask It still is a great price! Thanks Todd for offering great stuff at great prices!)

oooh I wonder if that means orders made in the UK get a cheaper delivery on that item. seems crazy for it to get shipped to US to Todd and thence back to the UK.

Re: Todd's Uptowner Fedora
Hi guys
Well, I guess I will be one of the first guinea pigs. I just placed an order for this hat. I have a Penman on order but it will not be ready by my company Halloween party.
I need a better hat than my 15 year old Disney World hat and was going to get the Downtowner but what the heck its only money.
I have a Todd's 10' whip and a Todd's MKVII and I love those. (I am getting there one piece at a time)

Re: Todd's Uptowner Fedora
Lol I knew that someone here would jump on it to break the story on new gear.
I was torn on which hat to order and delayed to try and hear some more about it. I also emailed Todd to describe the differences in the hats.
Do I get the downtowner that I have seen pics here and know that its a good hat at a good price or the Uptowner that is an unknown... but a hand bashable soft hat for that price is worth taking a chance on
Post pics of yours ASAP

Re: Todd's Uptowner Fedora
Not an assumption, an observation. The blockshape looks very similar to the Christy's I own. Made in England, as Christy's are, and Todd said that this hat maker has made hats for HJ, as Christy's has.

Re: Todd's Uptowner Fedora
OKAY ... its in! Gotta say ... nice hat! the feel of the felt is luxurious! The hat is very well made. Came bashed though, I thought it would be unabashed for some reason. Not as stiff as I anticipated. The ribbon could be darker, but its okay. European style lining. Here are the pix:
Taken without flash:
Natural light pic:
The second picture pest represents the color of the felt. It is a dark brown though outside it lightens up a full shade.
Initial judgment ... worth the price! Oh ... really nice, fitted, hat box with carry handle too!

Re: Todd's Uptowner Fedora
It does look really nice, especially at that price point! My only concern is hoping to get it open crown/un bashed. My oddly shaped head needs a good amount of turn to get that Raiders look, and if Todd sends them bashed that could be trouble for me. Still that bash job is very nice and Raiders. Nice work Todd

Re: Todd's Uptowner Fedora
Glad you like it, alphared6. As you can see, it's no Christie's.
Unbashed is no problem. Just send a note with the order. Also, they come with a 3" brim, so you can get them untrimmed or trimmed to your specs.
The felt is some of the nicest I've seen. Soft, but substantial.

What's the sweatband like? How would you compare the felt/construction to the Federation (if you've messed with one)?
Oh, and let us have a pic of the bow, good sir!
