As worn by the US Navy in the 1920's and 30's.
Not my jacket, I just found the web site. If they had this in my size I'd scoop one up!

I understand this jacket was never worn anywhere except in the imaginations of civilians.... Like the pockets, don't like the sleeves. It's oriigns I have read in several places are post WW2. Can anyone confirm?

I wonder that too CM. I don't think they started using 'G' in the jacket designations until sometime after the war, maybe after the Korean war. The G1 was M422 I think.
That's an interesting jacket though, and I've seen different versions of it, at least one citing it as a pre-war civilain pilot's jacket. I wonder who made that one? It shows up under their USA Union made section too.

That jacket has been listed for at least 6 months on that site at that price. I tried to order one when they had more (listed) sizes with an additional 20% discount, but alas, they ran out of XL Talls.
I understand that the G8 never was military issue, but a US-made leather jacket at that price seemed like a pretty cool deal.

I've seen a picture of Billy Mitchell sporting one. So at least one Naval pilot had one.

B-25 Mitchells may have taken off from the USS Hornet to bomb Japan, but Gen. Billy Mitchell was an Army man.
Most of the pics of prewar Navy aviators I've seen have shown them in A-1s or cloth jackets a la the M-421.

OOPS!
Nope ... your right, he was an Army officer, my bad! I've been searching the net trying to find the picture, as I recall he was posing next to a biplane (one he sank a battleship with) and the one obvious thing you could see was the diamond patch on the elbow, his parachute masked the rest of the jacket.
